Restaurante Baixamar was such a great find. We came across it while walking near the cathedral and the waterfront and ended up having one of our favorite meals in Lisbon.
We started with the prawn, avocado, and mango salad (with shrimp). It was super fresh and full of flavor. For mains, we shared the sea bass fillet with jacket potatoes and roasted vegetables, the linguini nero with seafood from the Portuguese coast, and the octopus à lagareiro. Everything was delicious. The octopus was incredibly tender, which says a lot because it is not easy to cook it that well.
If you order the linguini nero, just a quick tip: make sure the seafood shells are open. If any are closed, avoid eating them. Ours were perfect, but it's always good to check.
We also had a 50cl beer which was cold and refreshing, perfect for a warm day. The atmosphere was relaxed, the staff were welcoming, and the service was excellent. Everyone was friendly and attentive without being overbearing.
Just a heads-up for first-time visitors. If you ask for water and bread, you will be charged. Make sure to check the price so you are not surprised when the bill comes. That said, the staff were not pushy at all, unlike some other restaurants.
If you are in the area and want a quality Portuguese meal with great service, this place is definitely...
Read moreIt should be a good restaurant for food. I wanted to believe that my case was just bad luck. But still I would like to remind those who are interested.
We were a group of friends and ordered eight dishes for dinner. I have heard that grilled Octopus is very famous in Portugal, so I tried for the first time in this restaurant and I was the only one who ordered it. Other friends’ dishes looked good and they had no complaints. The octopus was tender, but I didn’t feel much strong sea flavor like I expected. What’s more tragic was, in the middle of the night I started to have vomiting and diarrhea. I am pretty sure it was because of the Octopus. Because my friends all shared the same food with me all day except the Octopus, and they were all fine. This accident almost ruined my trip in Lisbon. I ended up lying in bed for one day in the hotel.
Another small thing I was not so comfortable with is, the waiter presented me the bill at the end and emphasized to me three times: this was without the service fee, at the same time giving me a suggestive look. I have been living in Europe for 5 years and this was the first time to experience such an obvious...

I tried it based on the averaged high rating scored by hundreds of customers.
My starter was the Tune Strips with black sesame, which were tender and great in taste. My main order was made of two, the Cod Fish and the Octopus, both are recommended to be eaten with the addition of Extra virgin Olives Oil. The two orders were successfully good, with the advantage goes in favor of the winning Octopus.
Don’t forget to order the bread with olives, to mark the experience as complete.
A note, their menu goes on with other promising types and more than a visit worth it for trying out the other dishes.
Generally, the service was prompt and attentive and my thanks for the active supervision, which notably ensured smooth harmony and seamless movement.
When I walked in at 12 Noon, the place was almost empty except for couple of customers. Soon after that, the place was stuffed and filled up quickly with many customers. This indicates the reliable reputation and assessment.
Thanks for the Chef and his team efforts, which collectively made the experience...
