The restaurant is located on the sidelines on a hill. It is inconspicuous, but in this small, atmospheric place, wonderful, local Portuguese cuisine is served. We have been here several times and each time we were greeted by the owner of the restaurant, today in turn, exceptionally, we were greeted by a nice waitress. The staff speaks English, so you can easily communicate. We have been to other places within 1 km of the center (Rossio Square), but this restaurant stands out significantly from the others. The meals served are very tasty, prepared with fresh ingredients. All the meals we had the opportunity to eat were of the highest quality. It is also worth praising that the prices are not excessive, which encourages you to come back another day for lunch or dinner. Today, for the first time, despite the large size of the dishes, we decided to have dessert, and it was the best choice. The desserts were wonderful, in particular the Oreo dessert and the dessert with mint and chocolate deserve praise. Each meal brings another taste experience. Each time (we have been there several times) we are sure that the food will be very tasty, fresh, and diverse. I can definitely recommend this restaurant. I will definitely be happy to use it next time!!!
Read moreThis place was recommended to us by a Lisbon local as a great “mom and pop” restaurant. The selection of grilled meats that we ordered was absolutely delicious, but our favorite dishes were the francesina (best that I had in Lisbon or Porto!) and the Bacalhau à Brás, which is just crazy delicious. The older gentleman who takes orders and brings out the food is very kind and didn’t mind our poor spoken Portuguese- he even brought us a free ginjinha (a tart cherry liquor that is a specialty of Lisbon) at the end of our meal. Don’t expect a fancy or fine dining experience, but if you want a great meal and to support a non-touristy local business filled with locals, you’ve must give it a try.
So be sure to stop by Grelha Do Carmo on your next trip to Lisbon - you be thrilled...

We ordered three fish dishes… we couldn’t eat even half of them: the smell was awful, flies around, chewy, oily, … even the sides were uneatable.
The meat was grey, difficult to chew, we couldn’t finish it.
It was our first dinning experience in Portugal and we had stomach ache all day, and such a bad experience with the food as we have never ever tried before.
To be honest, I wouldn’t recommend it. We paid 25 euro per person and we didn’t eat almost anything, and the little we had made us sick all day :( I hope they can fix the kitchen as the...
