The restaurant is located on the sidelines on a hill. It is inconspicuous, but in this small, atmospheric place, wonderful, local Portuguese cuisine is served. We have been here several times and each time we were greeted by the owner of the restaurant, today in turn, exceptionally, we were greeted by a nice waitress. The staff speaks English, so you can easily communicate. We have been to other places within 1 km of the center (Rossio Square), but this restaurant stands out significantly from the others. The meals served are very tasty, prepared with fresh ingredients. All the meals we had the opportunity to eat were of the highest quality. It is also worth praising that the prices are not excessive, which encourages you to come back another day for lunch or dinner. Today, for the first time, despite the large size of the dishes, we decided to have dessert, and it was the best choice. The desserts were wonderful, in particular the Oreo dessert and the dessert with mint and chocolate deserve praise. Each meal brings another taste experience. Each time (we have been there several times) we are sure that the food will be very tasty, fresh, and diverse. I can definitely recommend this restaurant. I will definitely be happy to use it next time!!!

This place was recommended to us by a Lisbon local as a great “mom and pop” restaurant. The selection of grilled meats that we ordered was absolutely delicious, but our favorite dishes were the francesina (best that I had in Lisbon or Porto!) and the Bacalhau à Brás, which is just crazy delicious. The older gentleman who takes orders and brings out the food is very kind and didn’t mind our poor spoken Portuguese- he even brought us a free ginjinha (a tart cherry liquor that is a specialty of Lisbon) at the end of our meal. Don’t expect a fancy or fine dining experience, but if you want a great meal and to support a non-touristy local business filled with locals, you’ve must give it a try.

So be sure to stop by Grelha Do Carmo on your next trip to Lisbon - you be thrilled...

Worse place I’ve been in a long time…

We ordered three fish dishes… we couldn’t eat even half of them: the smell was awful, flies around, chewy, oily, … even the sides were uneatable.

The meat was grey, difficult to chew, we couldn’t finish it.

It was our first dinning experience in Portugal and we had stomach ache all day, and such a bad experience with the food as we have never ever tried before.

To be honest, I wouldn’t recommend it. We paid 25 euro per person and we didn’t eat almost anything, and the little we had made us sick all day :( I hope they can fix the kitchen as the...

Don't miss this place! I really loved this place. The waitress was very kind. It is a very typical restaurant and the food is amazing. We took a tortilla and grilled sardines. Both were served with salad, rice and fries. It was very good everything was cooked perfectly. And the rice was amazing! Moreover the prices are very low! They definitely are not stingy on the wine. For 2.5€ you will get the biggest glass of wine you have ever seen in your life. People in the restaurant were mainly Portuguese, I think it's a very good indicator on the quality. I hope to come back one day!

Came here for the local feel, quick service and nothing too fussy for a great price. Small but got a spot right away (perks as a solo traveler), immediately cooled off with a Super Bock (didn't know it was an uphill trek from the metro station). Offered the lunch special for €8.5 including everything seen plus chocolate mousse dessert. Food cake right away and with free wifi, helped me plan my next stops. Perfect. Located right outside a few museums and a lovely courtyard. Highly recommend.

This is the typical family owned restaurant in the center of Lisbon. Located in Carmo neighborhood. Staff is very attentive. The food is like eating a great home made meal. I suggest making reservations Restaurante is small (about 7 tables). In my opinion the only downside is the air conditioning which needs to be upgraded as it can become very warm and uncomfortable if you are sitting in certain tables. However, I do recommend if you are in Lisbon looking for a great meal.
