Shifu Ramen is walking distance from the hotel we were at. We arrived at the Shifu Ramen around Nine pm and stood in a queue for over forty five minutes to an hour, before we were finally able to secure a seat. I don't mind the wait but what got to me was that they were accepting reservations in spite of the long waiting queue. People walked in with a reservation and that is offcourse alright, but what wasn't ok was that we weren't told that there would be a long wait because of the reservations, we could have easily gone to a different restaurant. We felt cheated because people walked in while we were in the queue outside.Again, to reiterate my issue is not that the place takes reservations but my issue is that folks that are waiting outside aren't informed how long it might take because of the restaurant accepting reservations. They could gave easily given us reservation numbers and set expectations from the beginning about the long wait times. There was a pregnant lady in front of us who waited for over thirty mins just to secure a seat. Furthermore, when I had had enough and raised the issue with the restaurant manager, the response I got was very indifferent, like she couldn't be bothered about their process and didn't care in the least about our long wait. Only saving grace was the service thankfully received by the Nepali staff(Aneesh) who maybe took pity and was genuinely nice. The food was decent and I don't want my experience with the management/process to overshadow the taste. Not once did the manager come and approach us showing concern or care about our experience, which seemed very money oriented. Overall an unpleasant experience and rest assured we won't be queuing up in front of Shibu...

It is so promising when you see a ramen/Japanese restaurant with actual young Asian people working. It helps assure me that this place is authentic and they know what they're talking about.
The minute I saw "tan tan ramen", I was sold on coming here. It sounded somewhat like dandanmian which are some of my fav noodles, and I have been missing Chinese food very much here. It wasn't dandanmian, obviously, but a close enough Japanese take on it, and not that spicy, but still tasty. (Nothing in Portugal is as spicy as I am used to.) Really hit the spot, and the ramen itself was cooked well.
Very extensive menu of legit Japanese soft drinks!
The decor and atmosphere is great, and obviously took a lot of time and care designing and decorating it. All sorts of anime/manga characters and toys. (I would have put some Sailor Moon and AstroBoy on the walls too! But I know I old lol). There's the typical food delivery robot, but I'm pretty over it. (They have them so many places and I just sort of find them annoying but I get why others may be impressed.)
Great aesthetics. Very cool space with good food. Would...
Read moreEvery time I visit Lisbon, I always save a day to have ramen at Shifu. It’s quite honestly my favorite restaurant ever. The atmosphere and decor of the restaurant is so colorful, vibrant and fun as everywhere you look, you see manga panels of several beloved manga series along with anime figurines. The selection here is also incredible with all dishes being filling and comforting. Especially the star dish of the restaurant, the ramen. You get such a large portion of ramen that will surely keep you satiated for half a day, honestly. My biggest advice is to skip breakfast if you wish to eat all the ramen for lunch. Of all the ramen places I’ve been to, I’ve never left unsatisfied when going to Shifu. And it’s clear that the sentiment is agreed by the majority of folks considering that there’s always a line to have a seat. The energy at the restaurant is fantastic. If you’re a fan of Japanese pop culture and find yourself in Lisbon, you would be a fool to pass up the opportunity to dine...
