BEST. HOTEL. IN. LISBOA
Staying at H10 Duque de Loulé in Lisbon was the perfect way to kick off my trip to Portugal. This boutique hotel effortlessly combines comfort, style, and a touch of luxury—all at a surprisingly reasonable price point—right in the heart of the city.
We arrived at the hotel around 1 AM after a long day of travel. Tired and jet-lagged, we were warmly welcomed by the front desk staff, who made check-in seamless. They greeted us with refreshing towels and complimentary welcome drinks, a thoughtful gesture that immediately made us feel taken care of. The bellhop promptly brought our luggage to the room, which we appreciated more than words can say at that hour.
Our room was absolutely charming—modern, clean, and elegantly decorated with traditional Portuguese touches, like blue and white tile accents. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the room came stocked with everything we needed: a Nespresso machine, plush robes, and high-quality toiletries. After a rejuvenating shower and a great night's sleep, we were ready to start our day on a much better note.
Breakfast the next morning was a standout experience. The staff greeted us warmly and seated us right away. The buffet offered a wide variety of options—fresh fruit, pastries, eggs, charcuterie, and local specialties. Everything was beautifully presented and regularly replenished. The servers were attentive without being intrusive, always ready to offer coffee refills or help with anything we needed.
That evening, we made our way up to the rooftop terrace—Limão Rooftop Bar—which quickly became one of our favorite parts of the hotel. The panoramic views over Lisbon were breathtaking, both during the day and at night when the city lights come alive. With our complimentary drinks in hand, we relaxed in the stylish seating area, soaking in the peaceful atmosphere and reflecting on our first full day in Portugal.
The location of the hotel was another major plus. It’s situated just a short walk from Marquês de Pombal and Avenida da Liberdade, with easy access to public transportation, shops, and restaurants. While it’s slightly removed from the tourist-heavy neighborhoods like Alfama or Bairro Alto, that actually worked in our favor—it was quiet and peaceful at night, but still close enough to get anywhere within minutes.
From start to finish, the staff at H10 Duque de Loulé were incredibly professional, friendly, and attentive. Every interaction—from the front desk to housekeeping to the rooftop bar—was marked by genuine hospitality. They truly made us feel welcome and valued.
In short, this was one of the best hotel experiences I’ve had in Europe. I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend H10 Duque de Loulé to anyone visiting Lisbon—whether it’s your first time or your fifth. This hotel is a hidden gem that delivers far more...
Read moreThis is probably the worst experience I had for this year, or maybe second worst, among 20+ hotels I visited this year. Since most of them are in North America/ Asia, I will only compare between other 2 hotels I visited in Portugal. Let me start with the pros tho: Location is quite convenient; The shower is strong and hot. The room is bright and has good view.
Then let me get in to the uncomfortable part: Unfriendly communication, I made the booking on a third party and for some reason the hotel wasn’t able to charge me. (But my booking in the 3rd party app showed “paid” which gets me confused), the front desk simply told me the payment wasn’t able to go through and asked me to pay and check my bank statements, she wasn’t pushy or mean but it’s not friendly either. While I understand this is not their problem, but I do think they can explain better and show a bit patience, cause this situation wasn’t new to them (I asked if similar situation happened before and they said yes), from my point of view, they are claiming something differently with my booking details and I was not able to distinguish who’s right and wrong, I did explain that I am not able to check my statement on my phone. They clearly know this situation better I do, I would expect them to be more patient and telling me this is an known issue they dealt with many times, it’s not the clients’ mistake but something to do with their payment system not work properly with the third party. They should bring me to somewhere comfortable so that I can communicate with the third party to confirm if the payment was charged. Honestly after a delayed flight and some drive, I am tired and thirsty, I do expect a 4-star hotel to think in clients’ shoes than simply tell the client what they need to do. Lack of daily supply, 2 bottles of water were served as “cortesia of the hotel” on the first day and every bottle after that (during my 4 days visit) will cost. This is the first time I was asked to pay for water among 20+ hotels I stayed this year; no refill of toothpaste, when I asked for it, only 1 was given (we have 2 people and the toothpaste is probably only enough for 2 use); water boiler was not provided and has to ask for (smart move on selling the water I have to say); no body lotion, when I asked them they said it’s by the sink, I checked again and didn’t see it in the first day, nor in the second day. Slow services, there were only 4 hangers when I visited, I asked for more, waited for half an hour and had to call again to get them. Lack of adopters, probably a strange point, but guess what, both hotels I stayed in Porto and Faro have adopters prepared for North America travelers. The hair dryer had some loud and sharp noise at the beginning. It gets normal after maybe 30 secs, but it was...

What makes a hotel great is the staff - they were excellent. The entire front office team deserve a reward but special mention must go to Miguel and Lucilla who went out of their way to help make our stay so memorable. And also Rodrigo who served an excellent Aperol Spritz.
The hotel itself has had a very good restoration and everything is very smart and clean. The lobby and bar area are very welcoming and the pastries on the reception desk a delight. And a prosecco welcome drink never goes wrong.
The hotel also has a rooftop terrace which is lovely for an evening drink and snack and is well worth a visit.
Location is just far enough from the busy areas but close enough for an easy downhill walk. If you need help back up then the metro is ideal and just across the road.
I would love to say its perfect but its let down by some quite strange decisions made by a management team and H10 corporation.
The first and easiest is that Club H10 members usually expect complementary water in rooms to be provided every day. Somebody has decided that will not be done at the H10 Lisbon which is a shame as it is very welcome at other h10 hotels.
The second is lot more serious and it seems the management have put profit before customer experience. Why else would you build a 10th floor rooftop bar and then add 4 bedrooms immediately next to it. In fact, the entrance to the bar is the same passageway to the rooms so you can find people queuing for the bar outside your room.
Although the rooftop bar closes at 10.00 there is some noise as people leave which continues as the bar is restocked (which can go on quite a while). If the hotel is hosting an event then it may possibly be later (it advertises use of the hotel for events).
It is a shame that profits are being put before customer experience. Somebody has decided it is acceptable that some people may have a poor experience so long as the rooms bring money in. And misses the point that it is the reputation of H10 that is badly affected.
At the very least the rooms should be described as being next to the bar so that guests are aware.
Some people might not be bothered by this, but others may be, and other guests were surprised the hotel did this.
We would go back to the H10 Lisbon but would avoid any rooms on...
