Terrible experience. Would not recommend to anyone. Let’s start with the food — it was just awful. The potatoes were undercooked. The sea bass we ordered was completely burnt — black, dry, and tasteless, like charcoal. The salad looked like someone hastily chopped it up at home — two sad tomato slices, some grated carrot, and a pile of bland leaves. No oil, no seasoning, no dressing whatsoever.
We also ordered mussels — what they brought us was a joke. So tiny, they barely measured a centimeter. Honestly, we thought it was either a mistake or a bad joke.
The service was downright unacceptable. The waiter looked annoyed from the moment we walked in, never smiled, and acted like he just wanted us to leave as quickly as possible.
Food took around 40 minutes to arrive — with no apology or explanation. And the worst part? The bill. It included items we never ordered: bread, spreads, butter, and olives. We assumed it was a complimentary starter, as often happens in Portugal — but they charged us €1–3 for every single item. When we said we hadn’t ordered it, we were completely ignored and handed the final bill.
Bottom line: poorly cooked food, rude service, and a sneaky attempt to overcharge us. Avoid...
Read moreWanted to kick off my Lisbon food journey with piri-piri chicken. I went for the Chacoal grilled chicken while my friend ordered the famous Bacalhau com Natas (Codfish in Cream). The chicken was delicious, though I was secretly expecting it to be marinated in piri-piri sauce before grilling, blame the YouTube recipe videos I binged before coming. Instead, the piri-piri arrives on the side. Friendly warning: it’s not for the faint of heart. That sauce packs serious heat, so approach it like a dare.
Portion-wise, the chicken seems to be on the small side. Tip for fellow meat lovers: don’t be shy, just order the whole bird, you’ll handle it, no problem. The codfish was also tasty, creamy, and comforting, so sharing bites felt like winning the dinner lottery.
The service was genuinely friendly, and I liked that the room was buzzing with both locals and tourists. Always a good sign. One note: mains aren’t huge, so grabbing a starter is a smart move. Prices are fair compared to other Lisbon restaurants, so your wallet won’t cry.
Overall, tasty food, cozy vibes, and spicy sauce that deserves its own...
Read moreReally lovely no frills locals restaurant for all things piri piri. We were looking for somewhere to have lunch, and wanted something traditional and un-touristy. Both loving a bit of spice and anything grilled we sought out something piri piri and found this restaurant - aptly named. We headed in at midday (we'd been up and about early) and we were the first in there. Within about 5 minutes of sitting down though, the restaurant was filled with locals popping in for lunch. The waiter was friendly, welcoming and spoke perfect English which helped us since we don't speak much Portuguese. We ordered the piri piri half chicken spicy and it was truly that along with a salad. All was no frills, tasty good honest food. We had 2 piri piri chickens with fries and a large salad to share, along with 2 bottles of sparkling water and it came to around 30 euros. Would recommend if looking for something similar - traditional nice tasting well cooked food at...
