🤢🤮 We originally went to taverna alfacinha (allegedly a seafood restaurant 🐟), but were told there were no place, and needed to go to their second owned restaurant Restaurant Bessa 🍽️. They recommended we go there instead — just a 3-minute walk 🚶♂️. So we went.
Worst decision ever. 😵💫
Both places were straight-up disgusting 💩. The soup at Bessa tasted like something scraped off the floor 🤮, and the fish? 🐠❄️ Dry, flavorless, and obviously frozen. It had the texture of wet cardboard and the taste of freezer burn. I give it a flaming 💩/10.
Then came the beer 🍺. We ordered a 500 ml, and they served us 350 ml like we wouldn’t notice? 🤨
But wait… it gets worse. The "mineral water" they served felt like a prank. 💧 It tasted like someone had drunk half a bottle of real sparkling water and refilled it with tap water from a dirty sink 🚰. It was flat, weirdly warm, and had that unmistakable (gym locker room tap water) vibe. 😷
And the olive oil? 🫒 They tried to pass off a strange yellow mix clearly blended with rapeseed oil. The taste was completely off — cheap, greasy, and artificial. To top it off, one of the bottles was dated 2023. Yes, they were serving last year’s oil like it was freshly pressed. Unacceptable. 🤬
Restaurante Bessa and Taverna Alfacinha = culinary crime scene. 🚨 Avoid both like the plague. 🏃♂️💨
Overpriced, overrated.
And don't forget the soup it tasted like vomit 🤢 I have never eaten a soup that bad 😞
Trust your stomach , these reviews on this restaurant is FAKE 🤥!!!!!— GO...
Read moreThe food was delicious here, and the service warm and helpful. Great location. There did not appear to be an outdoor dining option (in March anyways). Nice decor. We had a bottle of red, the Cartuxa EA which was good. Ordered the bread basket and olives (both good) and shared the Paella Negra (very good, it was not large but adequate, with two small mussels, two tiny clams, 2 or 3 medium shrimp/prawns, and only two thin slices of squid — a bit light to us but the ink sauce / flavoring was super tasty), and the Bacalhau à Brás - Codfish "Brás Style" which to me was worth flying here from Seattle, just so yummy and simple. The portions were just right for two people to feel pretty full. We ate at 14:00 which was a slow time of day for this place. Our patient server spoke very good English which was helpful to us on our first ever day in Portugal. At the end of the meal we were each warmly served a complimentary shot of homemade cherry liqueur which was so good. Gosh we wish this place was near us back home. Probably we will come back here to try some more items. Total bill was about $60 US. So glad we...
Read moreI really do not understand the 4.8 notation and mine is actually not harsh compared to my dining experience. For few reasons :
The food taste on typical portuguese food was ok but seriously nothing special. We are local portuguese and you can eat way better in any smaller city in Portugal. For Lisbon and especially due to the high notation i would expect way better.
I had a very bad experience as i found in my arroz de mariscos a cockroach in my dish. After eating half of it. It made me feel disgusted. I called the waiter and showed him. He took my dish and asked me if i wanted another one... Mmm of course not. He didn't say nor felt sorry. He of course removed the dish from the bill so there's not complaint on this. But comon they didn't not even looked bothered or even said sorry... I am still feeling disgusted few hours later...
But yea, restaurant is nice, looks typical, atmosphere ok although it looks like a tourist catching place... Waiter was nice and smiley. But once again, having a cockroach on the customers dish is not ok, and the fact they wasn't surprised or bothered is...
