This place looked so cute so we stopped and asked for a table last night - the waitress said she was full but we did notice a table outside and asked if we could take that. It was raining but the four tables were under cover and three were already occupied. She was clearly reluctant to give it to us and said if we get wet it’s our responsibility. We were happy to sit here and looking forward to eating. When she came back out to lay the cutlery etc we apologised for making her come back outside and said we appreciated her giving us the table. Her reaction again was not good and she proceeded to say she felt unwell with a sore throat and achy- she said I think it’s the virus. She wasn’t happy and obviously tried to scare us by saying she thinks she had covid!!!! Really this isn’t a way to run a business or treat clients. Her colleague was much more accommodating when he took our order and offered to put us inside when the rain got really heavy but again she seemed really unhappy about that too- Sadly although we had ordered and were really looking forward to eating, we chose to leave with a very sour taste- we didn’t appreciate her trying to scare us into leaving but as it turned out she got her way!!!! 😏 Consequently we spent our euros elsewhere As people who travel extensively and enjoy seeing different cultures throughout the world this young lady has sadly tarnished our experience in Ponta Delgada when our experience of the rest of the Azores has been...

We came at the end of lunch hours so it wasn’t busy but did still have to wait a bit for our food so I can believe other reviews when they say service is slow. I would recommend making a reservation.
Morcela C/ Ananás a Bombeiro (blood sausage with local pineapple) - this was amazing and easily my favorite morcela I had during my trip. The inside was softer than others I had and a more complex flavor.
Espetadinha de Carne (meat skewers) - meat was delicious and charred nicely but not overcooked. I believe it was sweet potato chips that it came with that were very thinly sliced and crunchy. Small salad on the side.
Polvo na Telha (octopus served in a clay tile) - I love the presentation and it comes with a lot of octopus. I love seafood and octopus and it was good but wasn’t amazing. I wasn’t a huge fan of the sauce it came in. I wish it came with more potatoes because there was actually too much octopus to the amount of potatoes. Still worth trying, but was just...
Read moreTaberna açor is a nice and small restaurant in the centre of Ponta Delgada, close to Igreja Matriz de São Sebastião (Church of San Sebastian). The waiter we had was a very enthusiastic man who loved to explain the portugese menu.
The menu was extensive and had possibilities for every type of eater. We chose the "tuna on a tile" dish and it was served in an antique roof tile. This was something else then the waiter had described us, so we were a little surprised to see the dish (see photo; on the left with seafruits and on the right without them).
The tuna was a little overcooked, which was a minus for the dish. On the other hand, the sweet potato and vegetables were very tasty.
Another minus I should mention was the toilet. The floor was wet and the toilet paper couldn't be distributed out of the distributor where it came from.
Despite the flaws, there was a very warm and cozy atmosphere and I would defintely come back! As a lot of restaurants in Portugal, the prices are very low and for 10 to 15 euros would give you a nice meal and a drink; a solid recommendation for friends...
