Not sure how to rate this, other than a nightmare. If I wouldn’t have known better, I thought it’s candid camera. We went on a Sunday and it was completely empty. So the waitress told us to come back on Tuesdays for the sushi night for 99QR. So I was wonderIng, what’s nowadays 99QR, so I asked again if I didn’t misunderstood her and she confirmed the price. We came back Tuesday with life music which wasn’t good at way too loud for a restaurant. The make piano player was good, but the female singer was good for a private karaoke round, but not to entertain a restaurant. We asked for a table away from her but the waitress who seated us told us all was taken and reserved even though no one showed up the whole night. Waited 30 min for someone to show up and take orders for drinks after we waived them down for quite a while. The manager finally stopped and took the drink orders, and we told him we are here for the Sushi night. The bartender brought our bottle of warm white wine with no glasses. He opened it and threw the plastic of the package in front of our eyes on the floor. No tasting, no showing the bottle or even the right temperature and no glasses . Felt like candid camera. Took another ten minutes till the glasses came. Probably after 45 min they started serving food, without explanation what will be served or even we had the chance to order what we would like. Sushi wasn’t good. A lot with cream cheese to make you filled up. The whole sequence and set up was wrong. We asked for the cheque and the waiter asked as if we do participate in urban points and it’s buy one get one meal free, so he said my meal would be free. We showed the app and he said one is free. When the invoice came, nothing was free. After complaining, Mr Maurice the manager came and and he told us one meal is free as the price is usually 199 QR and he’d give it to us for 99QR. After mentioning, that this price was giving to us anyway when we initially asked about the price he didn’t care. He should acknowledge the price given to us. It’s not about saving 100QR, it’s about the principle. I hate to be scammed! When we asked for the hotel managers name and email to complain about the terrible experience we had the whole evening, he gave me instead the g’s name and email the one from his food&beverage manager and he lied that this was the GM. Very unprofessional and terrible service / food. You should expect this to happen in a one star establishment but not in a five...
Read moreDecided to spend Chinese New Year at Teatro after looking at their advertised special menu for this occasion especially the duck! We were sadly quite disappointed by the food and atmosphere, some of which was beyond their control. The appetizers and soup were served almost immediately after sitting, which was quite responsive. The deep fried items seemed like they had been prepared for awhile, sitting in the back until cold, and had become soft rather than crunchy. The hard loh bak gow was definitely sitting too long instead of a crispy outside with a warm soft savoury centre that one expects of this dish. The sushi was presented quite quickly as well with the starters, so it was a table full of a lot of cold and hot foods (eg. steamed dim sum) making it feel like I had to rush through my hot items before they got cold. The server did say to take our time and pace, to be fair. Just felt a bit overwhelmed with the randomness of the dishes - deep fried basket beside oysters on ice beside the hot dumplings, which we had to push the soup over to make room, etc. Duck and noodles were delicious! Pancakes were warm to the touch but a bit sticky. Lobster was the most disappointing as it was way overcooked, rubbery and had to be laboriously pried out of the shell. Some of the oysters were almost nonexistent small because it was of such bad quality. They replaced the oysters when we mentioned it but even then, they were not plump.
While we were eating, another patron started smoking beside us, one cigarette after another. (I didn’t realize we were in the smoking section.) He loudly barked out phrases, grabbed some wines and whiskeys, and wandered around to some of the tables to chat with diners. His antics along with the cigarette smoke, which we were allergic to, was quite disturbing and distracting to our Chinese NY brunch. It was near the end of our meal so we didn’t ask to be moved. The manager and server apologized for him. I felt bad for the server who had to have a few “conversations” with him to ask him to lower his voice and such. He seemed visibly upset having to address this unruly customer when it should have been a manager’s responsibility, I would think.
We were happy to finish our meal quickly. Average food. Definitely unwelcomed atmosphere. Glad I had an voucher otherwise I would felt even...
Read moreTeatro delivered a memorable and cozy Valentine's Day dinner, living up to our expectations. As a long-time family favorite, we were eager to return after a small hiccup during our previous visit on NYE, and we were not disappointed.
The evening began with a lovely surprise—a beautiful table offering an incredible view. We had the perfect vantage point to enjoy the spectacular firework and drone show over the International Food Festival, making the experience even more magical. It was the ideal finishing touch to a wonderful evening.
The food was a mix of hits and misses. The starter portions felt a bit small for our tastes. The lobster amuse-bouche was acceptable but nothing exceptional. The Pink Lady sushi, consisting of only two pieces to share, was disappointingly tiny and left us wanting more. On a positive note, the salmon tataki was a standout—bold, flavorful, and truly delightful. The cashew beet soup, however, didn’t quite hit the mark for us, lacking seasoning and depth. Thankfully, Teatro’s refreshing strawberry sorbet palate cleanser provided a delicious and refreshing pause before the main course.
For the mains, we chose between the beef herb ribs and pink tuna steak. The beef ribs were absolutely stunning—tender, juicy, and falling off the bone. My husband, who doesn’t eat beef, opted for the tuna, but unfortunately, he found it lacking in flavor and texture, leaving him feeling a bit unsatisfied. The dessert course, a red raspberry piñata, was a delightful treat, with the perfect balance of sweet and tart.
The live music and romantic ambiance created a lovely atmosphere, adding to the overall experience. The service, as always, was exceptional. Maurice, the manager, Prince (our longtime favorite), and our new server Naveen, provided impeccable service that made the evening even more enjoyable.
We’ll undoubtedly return to Teatro again and again, thanks to the great food, atmosphere, and outstanding service. Well done, and we look forward to...
