In the mood for a high end Chinese restaurant with incredible high views of Doha? Go and visit the newly opened @yun.qatar on the 44th floor of the @waldorfdoha Hotel in West Bay. The ambiance is very cozy with dark and red interiors, lovely space to visit for a celebratory dinner and to enjoy the views of West Bay and The Pearl.
We started off with some of their signature dim sum dishes, really delicious and strong flavors. My favorite would be the Applewood Smoked Beef Brisket Bao with Chinese Barbeque Glaze, super fluffy bao buns filled generously with tender beef, topped with a sesame brittle, nice complement of the soft bun with the crispy outside. Another dish we tried was the Handmade Wagyu Dumplings, served with reduced red soya and spring onions. The beef filling was very tender, and I liked the umami sauce. Also got the Siu Mai Shrimp Dumpling, tender, meaty and filling dumplings.
For the main course we tried the Triple Cooked Beef Short Rib Shanghai-style with Ginger & Garlic, fork tender beef with a nice sweet sauce. Then we got the Szechuan Chicken with Ginger, Garlic and Chili Sauce, I felt this dish had a bit of an overpowering flavor in the sauce, nevertheless was nice and flavorful with juicy pieces of chicken. Also tried the Marinated Black Cod with Soy and Wild Honey, this dish was okay for me, a fairly mild flavor of the sauce, but was cooked perfectly. This was paired nicely with their Vegetable Fried Rice. We got the Vegetable Fried Noodles as well, but I personally did not like the flavor too much.
For desserts, my favorite dish was the Bamboo Charcoal Egg Custard Bao, really perfect, fluffy bao filled with sweet custard. Also got the Milk Pudding, Truffle Honey and Iced Black Sesame. This was a unique dessert, nice creamy pudding but topped with a bit of truffle on top, so the sweet taste was overpowered by the umami truffle flavor. And finally we also got the Chilled Mango Sago Pomelo, which was okay, but was refreshing.

Read moreVery sharp menu well designed offering an eclectic repertoire of classic Chinese dishes. Great cocktails made with classic spirits as for instance the MAOPI. Welcome pickles were very strong, careful not to burn your tastebuds there. Started the evening with a massive crab soup, kind of hot and sour soup, well balanced with small or tiny chunks of crab. The half duck was excellent, carved at the table by an Attentive but not Intrusive waiter. I would have prefer to have some sugar with crispy duck skin but this modern approach is very satisfying. I would strongly suggest them to serve homemade pancakes in two tempo to enjoy the duck wrapped in that warm silky pancake throughout the whole course. At the image of the team, bartender was very precise and knowledgeable, I would have liked to see the chef stopping by to ascertain the authenticity of the Chinese touch. I could not end my dinner without a dessert. I picked one classic, Sago with mango purée, pomelos caviar and coconut ice cream which was too generously portioned. For a first visit, I felt out of this world in this harmonious environment. I will go back to taste the Dim sum selection for brunch. Read moreI recently visited Yun for their Saturday Dim Sum brunch with a group of friends, and overall, it was a delightful experience. The reservation team did an excellent job arranging a table for us, offering stunning view of the city.
We arrived at 12noon and waited for a while before things get started. Most of us enjoyed the taste of the dim sum. For the stater, I particularly loved the crispy duck wrapped in pancake and the deep-fried fish.
For the main course, the steamed fish was fresh and flavorful. The custard bun dessert was decent but didn't leave a lasting impression. On a positive note, the soft-shell crab was absolutely fantastic, though it was a complimentary dish and not part of the brunch.
While I am not a huge fan of beef, I found the beef-filled dim sum to be well-executed and enjoyable. I would suggest experimenting with chicken and sea food as an alternative filing or perhaps offering more seafood options.
All in all, I would recommend Yun to anyone who hasn’t experienced it yet, as it offers a unique dining experience. To truly stand out, I believe there’s potential for improvement in some of the dishes to make the experience even...
