Tastes differ, but I’d still like to share my experience.
I visited Ljubljana for the first time and had a 5-hour layover, so I wanted to enjoy my time and treat myself to sushi — my favorite dish. Based on the great reviews, I chose this restaurant. The atmosphere and location are indeed lovely — right by the river on the main street. But unfortunately, that’s where the positives ended for me.
I ordered a fish soup (which was pleasantly sour and spicy, a nice way to warm up), two different types of rolls, and red snapper nigiri. However, I had to wait almost two hours for my food, even though the restaurant wasn’t at full capacity. It was surprising, especially since there were three ! chefs in the kitchen.
Most guests were seated outside, and it was quite chilly with some wind. It would’ve been nice if the restaurant had offered blankets or something to make it more comfortable.
As for the sushi: I ordered one roll with salmon and one with tuna, but I couldn’t taste the fish in either — the flavor of fried shrimp completely overpowered everything. Only the nigiri and the soup were tasty — those are the only items I’d recommend.
Overall, the two hours spent freezing outside were simply not worth it. I wouldn’t want to visit this restaurant again.
I paid about 50 euros for the entire bill. (Tea, Soup, Nikkei roll, Salmon avocado roll, Red...
Read moreSushi was really amazing but we had to wait for 1h30, for a pretensious place like this, the service should be a bit faster. We also found the cevice disappointing. We have had authentic ceviche before but this was not it! Raw fish in ceviche needs to cook in in its marinate preferrably a bit longer than 20 sec before serving. Another issue is that the restaurant does not allow for any other form of reservarion but online. This would have been fine had their online system accepted a foreign card. The problem is that you need to block 60 euro on your credit card in case of no show. Their online system did not accept a foreign credit card for some reason, when I called and explained I received no help. I offered to go by during the day and book in person and present my credit card details, but the answer was no, they kept insisting on doing it online. In the end I didn't book and took a chance. We walked in and found a table. However, we had the feeling our order was treated with less attention exactly because we hadn't booked, people who had arrived and ordered after us received their food much faster, whereas ours came after almost all other tables had been served. My honest suggestion is to improve customer service and the booking system. Otherwise, the food is good but the package experience...
Read moreThe newest venture from the owner of Sushimama, Tokyo Piknik, Fetiche... As it seems, he is quite fond of asian cuisine. And this small, corner restaurant which seems "easy" at first sight (and can probably sit not more than 20 people) is the culmination of all the previous ventures. Delicious ceviche, delicious sushi and wonderful main dishes make a great play on a variety of different tastes. If you're looking for sushi (this is Japanese-Peruvian cuisine though!) this is currently, hands down, the best place in Ljubljana to get it. I highly recommend taking the bench between the wall and the chef's bar/kitchen, as it's the cosiest place there. Also try the...
