With unexpected load shedding - my wife very reluctantly agrees for us to try Spur Canal Walk. After receiving a voucher from one of the other Spur's earlier that day (due to not having a good experience).
Just to stress my disgust....you sent me the same old burger...3 times!!! re-dressed after standing on the pass since we arrived re-plated (to hide sending me the same burger) then reheating the patty (and patty had pieces on bone in it)
This is how the night plays off..... After our drinks arrive, my wife phones me from the toilets as there is no toilet paper in any of the stalls (according to their cleaning schedule toilets were last checked at 9am....it was after 7pm)
From there is just took more of a turn....lucky for us / unlucky for Spur....we were seated were we had full view of the pass. I received a burger which had been standing on the food pass since we arrived, we actually watched them take that plate and redress it to be send it out (to me). I explained to my waiter I did not want this burger which had been standing there for who knows how long - bun was rock hard (was told they toast their buns...right), patty was ice cold. The plate itself was hot to the touch on one side and ice cold on the other...this confirmed it was the same burger which was on the pass when we arrived. Waiter immediately took it away for "fresh burger" to be made...guess what...same burger different plate and reheated chips and onion rings!! I removed the patty and asked the manager to please warm it (as this was still ice cold) and clearly they were going to keep giving me this same old burger and not make a fresh one as requested. Not sure where they buy their mince or patties...but ended up with about 3 small pieces of bone. Again I called for a manager to show he this. Blamed he supplier, no apology.
No problem with my wife's food....fresh and warm - Buffalo Wings
The cherry on top was when my table was approached by two ladies selling things to make a living. Both our appetites gone after that, we just wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible and requested the bill. I complained to the manager (seemed like he did not even know these ladies where in the restaurant selling things), explaining this is not a good experience for me. Someone coming to your table and asking for money while you trying have a meal (which itself was questionable on freshness and quality). Yes we all need to make a living, why not have their goods on display on your counter then where I can buy after finishing my meal.
Truly this was the last any Spur will see us. Absolutely shocking. We want nothing for Spur.....not a phone call.....definitely not a voucher....you had your second chance and...
Read moreWe got a terrible experience while dining at spur canal walk. When we came there , we got seated and we wanted to dine in the smoking area , at first we sensed an issue and we asked is it okay if we sit here as we were a large group but it was a misunderstanding on age and the staff member thought we were underage. We found it funny nonetheless and laughed it off and thereafter we were introduced to our waiter and he too asked us our age and to show our ID , which we didnât have a problem as we do look quite young and we understood it was part of his job to ask and verify and throughout the night it was okay , just the food took a long time to arrive. The main problem was another staff member and I think he was a supervisor or manager Iâm not sure , who just kept looking at us and was actively showing us he was staring at us. He walked past our a table a few times and then came to us and lectured us on being underage and that we can cause the restaurant to close down and us getting a fine and we did multiple times said that we are of age and yet it went through his ear and out the other and it bothered us because we have basically been asked twice of our age and surely by now itâs supposed to be communicated amongst staff that itâs all clear and we are of age. We were extremely bothered by it and it spoiled our dinner. We did understand they are just doing their job but the staring and circling our table like a shark was unnecessary. We then expressed our concerns to our waiter and the other staff member and how we felt , its stunned us that they refused to believe we were of age and we did show IDs as well. After we expressed our concerns , the other staff member came back and we were genuinely expecting an apology at least but yet we got another lecture and basically telling us âwe shouldnât feel offendedâ when he practically went out of his way to offend us and yet no apology came. We just wanted to leave that place and never come back. Regardless showing our IDs and saying our age we were treated and reprimanded as children which did not sit right by us and made us quite upset. We do understand asking for ID at times is important and valid as we went to other restaurants but they only asked ONCE but spur asked us THREE TIMES !?? no man , once is more than enough and even showing our ID as proof. We felt extremely discriminated and we are extremely disappointed in how we were treated . All we wanted was them to acknowledge how they made us feel and apologise but nothing. I donât think we will ever be going back there again but thatâs a useless thing to say anyway as they wonât care if we come back or not nor will they care about this review and how it...
Read moreBooked a table , they tried to seat us right next to the smoking area. Afterwards they sat us at a lovely table overlooking the water. We ordered the 400g Rib special and both ordered extra basting sauce on the side. The ribs arrived super tough we sent them back and my cousins veg were cold and the spinach was very gritty. The ribs came back and they were good. I wanted a second drink and struggled to get service. There were also so many different waiters serving in our little area and yet no one was around. I needed a drink and extra sauce and my cousin wanted a take out box. I ordered extra sauce and my drink which took forever to come. When it came my sauce was cold and in a takeaway container so had to wait again for sauce to be heated. By which time my ribs were ice cold.
When we then recieved the bill we were charged R38.50 for the sauce and they charged for 4 sauces. I HAVE only once been charged extra at a Spur for extra basting sauce and it was R5. I always order extra basting sauce and it's never an issue. We called a waiter then after explaining we weren't happy for the sauce charges she went to fetch a manager. That took forever. We explained again and then he said he would call the manager. He took forever to come, but this point we were just getting more irritated by the minute. We again had to explain all over again, he then spoke to the waitress in front of us trying to explain how to void it from the slip. She came back with the same slip but had manually written in the new amount.
The waitress was very sweet but clearly didn't understand the billing, the communication and team work between the staff was awful. When I tried to order my drink from another waitress she asked who was serving us. I didn't remember her name it is up to the staff to work that out and relay the message or put the order through themselves, surely tables are numbered. After everything that went down we decided to go elsewhere for coffees.
I eat at Spurs regularly and a couple of times at this one as I live in Century City.
I am in no hurry to come back I would rather travel to Bothasig, Bayside or Seaside Village than have the experience I had today, again.
DEFINITELY NOT A...
