Jogaewa Myeongdong is a seafood restaurant that specializes in fresh and delicious shellfish dishes. It is located in a busy and lively street in Myeongdong, one of the most popular shopping and tourist areas in Seoul. The restaurant has a cozy and modern interior, with a large seafood bar where customers can see the variety of shellfish on display. I visited Jogaewa Myeongdong on a weekday evening, and I was greeted by a friendly staff who showed me to my table. I ordered the seafood platter, which consisted of steamed and grilled shellfish, such as clams, mussels, scallops, oysters, abalones, and lobsters. The platter was served with a spicy sauce and a garlic butter sauce, as well as some side dishes like salad and rice. The shellfish were all fresh and succulent, and the sauces complemented them well. I especially liked the abalones, which were tender and sweet. The portion was generous and satisfying, and I enjoyed every bite. I also tried the seafood hotpot, which was a soup with various kinds of seafood and vegetables. The soup was rich and flavorful, with a hint of spiciness. The seafood was cooked perfectly, and the vegetables added some crunch and color. The hotpot was warm and comforting, and it was perfect for the cold weather. I spent about an hour at Jogaewa Myeongdong, and I felt that it was a great dining experience. The service was attentive and efficient, the atmosphere was lively and pleasant, and the food was superb and affordable. I would definitely recommend Jogaewa Myeongdong to anyone who loves seafood and wants to try some authentic Korean shellfish dishes. Read moreThis is the second time we visited this place. First time almost two years ago on a quick layover in Seoul. This time we were in town for a week and we came back to this restaurant, which we loved the first time around.
And good news: It's still a great place to enjoy fresh seafood. The setting is quite fun...round tables and some simple "chairs" where you can store your valuables during dinner. The whole mood here is great, you can feel and hear the customers having fun and enjoying the meals.
We ordered an assorted plate of seafood for about 59$ (for the both of us). All to be grilled on the hot stones underneath the table grill. First arrived a big plate of mussels. The were fresh and tasted good....but we thought, that's it? Not because it wasn't enough....just because it was all the same kind of mussels.
Well, after we finished this one....another big plate of seafood arrived. Clams, scallops and more. Good value we thought! But then after finishing this, a THIRD big plate of seafood arrived at our table including more mussels, some shrimp and a huge (and alive!) Abalone.
Amazing value in the end. If you look at the menu, you might think 59$ is pricey....but look at what you get. Easily fills 3-4 persons. And it was just the two of us.
Beer and Soju are both well priced....so, keep the drinks coming :)
Service was friendly and attentive. And their English was as good as our Korean :) But no problems at all here, we got what we ordered (with a little help from the friendly customers next to our table).
It's a great place. If you feel like seafood then look no further. It's as great as...
Read moreMy brother and I walked in hoping for a good meal as it looked lively from the street. What we found was the staff to be extremely aggressive, and dishonest. Once we were sat, a staff member approached with the menu, and instead of letting us have a look, she hovered over us pushing the seafood boil until we made a choice. Once we did, she then pushed the ab abalone appetizer, which we declined. Then the most frustrating part was her lie on the price of an additional lobster. We asked to have one more lobster in the boil, and when we asked the price she kept quoting $5 USD, when in reality the menu price that she was also pointing at was actually 50,000 KRW. We confronted her on the price as the conversion was not correct, and declined the additional lobster. From that moment the mood of the restaurant felt like it was changing, but it did not. As we finished and went to pay, they again aggressively asked for cash only, but we mentioned we preferred a card. As we gave them our card, the guy didn't let us sign for our receipt and signed for us. When confronted he was un-phased. It takes a lot of us to not recommend a place, but I do not want anyone else to go through...
