10/10... You must try Picamar if you want delicate dishes and a change from the robust meals most other places offer.
Picamar is a small terrace bistro offering Asian/Spanish fusion tapas plates and larger main meals. Its run by a young husband and wife team, with he in the kitchen (I suspect he may have trained at a high end restaurant before setting out by himself), and she running front of house. They are both so warm and friendly - you can tell they love their job.
You can expect amazing service with pleasant, fun chat every time a dish is brought to you.
Oh yes, to the food... It's delicious! Firstly, the patatas fritas are not just "standard fried potatoes" you might get in the tourist trap restaurants and cafes. These are lovingly prepared thin wedges of deep fried Canarian potatoes which have been cut into with a deep V shape to create two crispy wings of potato and a thin fluffy centre, served with creamy home made alioli garlic dip. A very decent portion size too. Note: The alioli crops up as a garnish element with most other dishes (rightly so) and is also served alongside the oven toasted bread - my son said it was much better than standard garlic butter. All so moreish! The meatballs came in a rich tomato sauce, also great for dipping bread and the patatas fritas. Pulpo tapas was a thick tentacle on a bed of creamy smooth mash. Croquetas were crispy and the filling was mainly meat rather than potato - we thought the chicken was the tastiest, so full of meat. The tuna tataki main was beautiful (and the tastiest dish for us) - thin slices of tuna with a thin sesame seed crusting, all delicately seasoned and provided with soy sauce to dip, plus pan roasted asparagus and carrot.
All the dishes are prepared fresh. Most came with a side garnish of the alioli garlic dip, edible flowers, and a bed of salad leaves (rocket and lambs lettuce in our case). We all shared a brownie and ice cream dessert, just because we had to try, even though we were full. It came beautifully presented in a small bowl with a glass bell jar on top.
Dishes will be served as your meal progresses, in the tapas way. And, the lovely server will explain if she thinks you have ordered too much - you can always add a dish if you think you need to. She does not like waste (neither do I).
I should also mention that the serving plates and dishes are, in themselves, quite beautiful: colourful and individual, not mass made white china. This enhances the enjoyment of each dish.
We chose a bottle of dry, zingy rueda, perfect for all our dishes. The house made lemonade is zesty and palate cleansing.
Suggest you also finish with a glass of ice cold young white grappa!
Regards to both the chef and front of house.
Hablo Espanol?! 😁
Thanks for a memorable meal set against the glowing sunset, the culinary highlight of our visit...
Read moreI have been here in Tenerife for 5 days and this is definitely the best restaurant here, even though I haven’t tried so many I feel like this is one of the best. The food was delicious and it’s kind of big tapas so I got really full.
The people working there were really nice and I feel like that our family got a connection to one of the waitresses, she was really nice and funny, she made some jokes and we got to laugh so that was really nice.
The food cost kind of much like around 11 euros per tapas but I can tell you it’s worth it, the food is so delicious.
If you go here I really recommend to book a table because every table there was reserved and I can understand that when it’s won people’s choice award on TripAdvisor two times.
The view there is really nice, you can see the ocean and it’s close to the beach so that is really nice.
I really recommend coming here if you’re in Tenerife, it’s kind of hard to find so ask one of the people selling...

What a lovely little gem amidst the chaos if all the touristy restaurants nearby.
The place was pretty much full when we arrived, so we weren't sure if we could get a table or not. There was a husband a wife team working, just the two of them doing everything. I thought to myself, it's so busy this could be a disaster. Put stepped the wonderful wife in the partnership, cool as a cucumber despite how busy she must have been. She sat us down, took orders for drinks and carried on. Amazingly calm!
The food we ate was amazing. Incredible flavours and very generous portions. Capped off by some amazing service throughout. It was one of our best meals in 8 days in Tenerife.
Decor of the restaurant was awesome, the whole place was just superb.
Get here quick, you'll be queueing round the corner...
