Came here with a group of friends for the New Year’s Eve celebrations. We paid €80 each, including access to watch the live jazz band (although they were great it was only one hour long). We were seated outside on a tiny bench that barely had room for 4 people, never mind 6 people. We had no choice in this. The heaters were inadequate due to being in open air, the bar suggested there would be a gazebo which never appeared, thankfully it wasn’t the coldest night of the year so we survived it ok. This is really bad as even the cheapest burger restaurant on the next block has a gazebo as well as all of the other surrounding restaurants in the area. For this price, it felt like a rip off and we were all extremely disappointed. Even worse, we had to pay the same price as those who could sit inside in the warmth at a proper table and they had a live DJ playing etc. Just disgraceful management.
The food was awful. The appetiser was one oyster.... we waited an hour to be served this and struggled to get anything vegetarian for 2 of our party who had requested this in advance (the clubs advertisement said they have vegetarian options). We were repeatedly forgotten about and they tried to skip courses that we hadn’t even received yet, staff rushed off their feet and service was awful. The food itself was way below the average expected, cold and some dishes so disgusting we couldn’t even eat them.
By the time midnight came we were asking for grapes and cava that was promised on the menu and already paid for. Some waiters said there were no grapes and eventually they appeared, old, mouldy and squashed and I didn’t even touch them.
The toilets were absolutely disgusting. No toilet seats or door locks. You’d be cleaner pissing in the street.
When it came to paying. The staff tried to overcharge us and add a surplus of €7 per person to the terrace (we had no choice but to sit on the terrace and of course didn’t want to as it was cold, cramped and we had no music or anything).
One of the worst nights ever for an astonishing price. It was a disgrace and I would be extremely happy if the manager would respond to this and offer a partial refund for their failures which I’m 100% sure they are aware of.
I would not recommend this place nor ever visit again. For the €480 paid it was a total rip off, sham, disgrace and embarrassment.
Our group are not tourists, we live in Barcelona and I can whole heartedly say that this is the worst place we have ever eaten in the whole city, as well as the worst service. Avoid.
Ps. After 90 minutes we had only been given one oyster each.... we were so hungry that we ended up splitting a snickers bar that someone thankfully had in...
Read moreWe ordered a portion of Angus beef, and it arrived surprisingly fast — too fast. As soon as we tried it, it was obvious why: the meat was cold, clearly not freshly prepared but leftover from the previous day. To make matters worse, the wine was spoiled — sour and undrinkable. Even the waiter agreed it had gone bad and promptly replaced it with another glass.
On top of that, what seemed to be the manager was also attending to our table. His face wore a constant expression of irritation and disapproval — something he didn’t even bother to hide. It felt as if the very presence of customers annoyed him. We’re not Spanish, but we’re not tourists either — we’ve been living in Barcelona for many years. Yet his attitude made us feel completely unwelcome.
As for the food — everything we ordered was disappointing, except for the dessert.
Guzzo used to be known for its incredible live music shows — in my opinion, the best in Barcelona. That’s why we specifically came for the flamenco performance. Imagine our surprise when a Caribbean woman appeared on stage to dance. Despite her traditional flamenco attire, it was clear she had no real connection to Spain or its culture — her facial features, skin tone, and dance movements made that unmistakable.
During the break, we were told that flamenco is now considered an “international dance.” Really? I've always believed flamenco to be deeply rooted in Andalusian culture — not something you can just rebrand as “international.”
Frankly, the whole experience was a huge disappointment. Guzzo was once a place I adored — ten years ago, I couldn’t get enough of their fantastic food and unforgettable concerts. Knowing what it used to be makes this recent visit even more disheartening.
I won’t be going back — and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who remembers Guzzo as...
Read moreDeceptive Marketing and Inflated Prices at Guzzo Bar - Avoid!
I recently visited Guzzo Bar in Barcelona and unfortunately had an extremely disappointing experience. The main reason for my dissatisfaction is the establishment's deceptive marketing tactics and dishonest pricing practices.
Upon entering the bar, I noticed the prominently displayed sign advertising "HAPPY SPRITZ HOURS" for a seemingly reasonable price of €6. Excited about the offer, my friends and I decided to order some drinks. However, when it was time to pay, we were shocked to see that the actual price was higher than what was advertised.
The staff explained that the advertised price was only for a regular Spritz, but since we ordered an Aperol Spritz, they decided to charge us more. This information was nowhere to be found on the menu card, and it felt like a deliberate attempt to deceive customers and extract more money from them.
This kind of dishonesty and abuse of marketing is completely unacceptable. It's essential for businesses to be transparent and provide accurate information about their pricing. Guzzo Bar clearly failed to meet these standards, leaving a sour taste in my mouth and ruining what should have been a pleasant evening.
I strongly advise others to avoid Guzzo Bar in Barcelona. Their deceptive practices and inflated prices make it an establishment that cannot be trusted. There are plenty of other bars in the area that prioritize honesty and customer satisfaction. Save yourself the frustration and disappointment by choosing a...
