I love açaí 😍. And every time I walk by a place that sells açaí, I come in. And if I cannot eat at the moment, I 📍 the place on Google Maps for later. Of course, most of the places that sell açaí offer other types of food too and, most of the time, I end up going there to have anything but an açaí. Señor Piña is one of these places. It offers a daily set of poke or other kinds of "healthy" bowls and it's located in the Gothic quarter of Barcelona near my wife's workplace. So a few weeks ago, we met there for lunch. The lunch special is about €15 per person and that includes a poke, or a combo soup + bowl. That's not super expensive, but that's not cheap at all for a daily set in Barcelona. The food was correct. I liked the soup a lot. The bowl, which was a pulled pork bowl, was strange... All the flavors were fine but they didn't match, which produced a result that was not exactly nice to eat... 😔 Yet the worst part was the service. First of all, this is the kind of place where you order and pay first and then you find a seat and they bring the food to you. Call me old fashioned, but I kind of like to pay at the end. I don't understand the reason for such a mechanism. 🤔 This is ok in a fast-food restaurant where you must speed things up, but in this case the food was anything but fast... In fact, this was the main issue: the service was super slow. Plus out of 4 items we ordered, they made 2 mistakes (meaning they brought something different). As a result, I started eating when my wife had already finished... 😤 Note that we were like 5 guests in the whole venue... 🫣 Then we had a poke for dessert, but I'll talk about that separately.

As I previously wrote, I bookmark açaí places and I end up eating anything but an açaí there. I didn't want that to happen at Señor Piña because I was kind of disappointed with my lunch experience... Well, maybe I should have skipped it... First off, there were very few toppings... The toppings are essential when you eat an açaí. Otherwise the cold takes the flavor of açaí away somehow, and the bowl becomes boring 🥱. On this occasion, we got part of a banana, few chunks of granola but like almost nothing, and a scoop of sorbet which was very good but its texture was horrible, almost like shaved ice (note that I have nothing against shaved ice, but you don't expect that texture in a sorbet). On top (🤪) of the lack of toppings, the açaí itself was tasteless. And when you think that experience couldn't get worse, we paid €10 😱 for that very small bowl of tasteless açaí with almost no toppings... "No bueno". 😤

Read moreI won't question the food here because it was good, but the way we have been attended was very awkward. We entered and everyone acted VERY careless towards us. The inside of the restaurant was empty and it took them more than 5 minutes to come to us and give us a table, they said twice "I will check" and disappeared in the terrace. The terrace was full of people and the people preparing the pokes, behind the bar, were extremely causal and doing everything slow or just going around. They didn't seem busy at all despite the amount of people eating. The whole atmosphere was weird. It took them 30min to serve us, we asked for some oil and they said they didn't have any (no oil in a restaurant? give me a better excuse). I didn't like any waiter there, they looked like they were doing us a favor. When I left and said goodbye no one cared to reply, I swear. I was attracted by the number of good reviews but I don't recommend this...
Read moreThis is one of those places that are social media famous and influencers love to promote. The food is overpriced, average at best, and took forever to come out - and the place was only about a quarter full at most with a lot of staff on hand. The service was definitely sub-par. It took 15 mins to get my order taken, an additional 15 mins before I got my beverage, and an additional 20 mins after that to get my food. And it was just French toast. Literally, one piece of French toast with whipped cream, one sliced strawberry, and a few blueberries. Not even remotely close to being worth the price or the wait. It did have a nice atmosphere, especially their “secret garden” - which isn’t a secret, just their patio area that’s in the back that the majority of patrons sit at. Spend your money elsewhere on better food...
