Disappointing and Embarrassing Experience
I would like to share my recent experience at Terrassa De Vivi Rooftop Bar in Barcelona, Spain. Unfortunately, it fell far below my expectations and turned out to be quite an embarrassing part of my holiday.
As I write this, I have just left the venue after having a few drinks and snacks. I want to be as fair and objective as possible. I understand that some might dismiss this as another “entitled tourist” complaint, but that is far from who I am. Coming from humble beginnings and being of Asian descent, entitlement is not something I have ever felt entitled to. I was raised to adapt, adjust, and treat everyone with respect and kindness.
Whenever I travel, I do my best to blend in, respect local customs, and appreciate the culture of my host country. With that mindset, my partner and I booked a table at Terrassa De Vivi well in advance because of its positive reviews and beautiful rooftop views.
We arrived properly dressed, as per the venue’s dress code, and were initially pleased to be seated with a lovely view. Sadly, that was the only highlight. Service quickly became frustrating. It took far too long to place our first order, despite trying to get the attention of multiple staff members who clearly saw us but chose to ignore us while they gathered together chatting and laughing.
When someone finally approached us, the interaction felt rushed and dismissive. Later, we ordered another round of cocktails, but before they even arrived, a staff member came over unprompted with the bill and asked, “Are you paying by cash or card?” We were taken aback — we hadn’t asked for the bill and certainly didn’t feel ready to leave, especially while other guests around us, who had arrived earlier, continued to enjoy their time without being rushed.
Looking around, we couldn’t help but notice we were the only Asian couple there. While I don’t want to assume the worst, I struggle to find another reason for the stark difference in how we were treated compared to other guests.
At no point did we show any disrespect or negative attitude. We thanked the staff politely and left quietly. However, the experience dampened our evening and left us feeling unwelcome and embarrassed.
Sadly, I cannot recommend Terrassa De Vivi Rooftop Bar to others. I truly hope no one else has to feel...
Read moreMy wife and I discovered the Terraza de Vivi (terrace with a rooftop bar) late one evening (4th September 23). It’s the rooftop bar and terrace of the Kimpton Vividora Hotel. Simply take the elevator up to the roof. It has fantastic views of Barcelona, even at night (although my old iPhone XS camera did not do the night time view justice. We enjoyed very nice cocktails and fantastic service. We had already eaten in the hotel restaurant otherwise would have been very temped by the tapas on the menu. We were surrounded by the chic vibe, tasteful music, and stunning views of the city. It’s a very well designed bar and outdoor space, with just the right amount of lighting. As we were in the hotel restaurant we were lucky enough to get a table while we waited at the Terraza de Vivi bar. But you probably need to book a table in advance as it is very popular. It was definitely well worth the visit and created lovely memories for us. If you get the chance to visit, I don’t think you will be...
Read moreOnly being in the area for one day we decided to find a rooftop bar to enjoy the views. This was a cute find. Security on the door were very polite and informed us we were a little early but could come in and enjoy a drink at the bar; on the ground floor; whilst we waited half an hour. The staff member serving us our coffee was very friendly and professional. Coffee came with a pretty little chocolate. The seating area was comfortable and stylish. We took the lift to the top floor, opens at 12.00 pm, and found plenty of outdoor seating. So we picked a table where we felt we had the best view. Drinks here are pretty pricey! But rooftop bars usually are. We opted for the white wine sangria which was €40 a jug or €13 a glass. Probably had 4 glasses in the jug. Lovely view, but not much of an atmosphere. We did not order food, but other guests food looked and...
