First of all I want to say that the bar is really nice. The wine selection is great and the staff seemed (at first glance) to be very nice. The bar is not like other bars, it is something special! Really cozy and nice!
Unfortunately the experience there was so bad that I decided to write a review here.
We ordered a glass of white wine. The glass wasn't even empty when we were (unkindly) asked to leave. After not even 45 minutes, although we had a reservation. The reason: we didn't order anything to eat. We were and we are still very confused because it is a wine BAR and not a restaurant. For me it is not usual to eat in a bar. Snacks would be ok, but we were asked to order a full dinner. When I go to a bar I want something to drink and logically nothing to eat. Otherwise I would go to a restaurant.
Unfortunately, that wasn't the worst of it. The staff said we had to leave because there was a long queue of people outside waiting to have dinner. When we left the restaurant 2 minutes later, there wasn't a single person waiting for a table. The whole thing is unbeatable in terms of impertinence. I've never experienced anything so cheeky in my life!
I have been active on social media for years and post restaurant recommendations there. Logically, I have visited a lot of restaurants in the last 4 years, but I have never experienced such insolence. I am really extremely disappointed!!!
I am very sad that the staff ruined our experience in this beautiful bar. I really would have liked to...
Read moreI had booked ahead but it felt like I hadn’t - they don’t bother setting the tables and with very little enthusiasm, showed us to a big shared table at the back with a cash register crammed next to it, staff squeezing past it bustling about, the lighting too low to eat and the music way too loud.
After some awkward negotiation (including the waiter walking off and ignoring us until we asked someone else for help) we managed to get moved to the bar where we could at least see our food and have a conversation, even if we were squeezed in directly in front of the decks.
The food and wine was delicious, at least what we were able to get served. Though we asked for and were given dessert menus, no one ever took our order and we were unceremoniously kicked out at midnight mid-conversation, to our surprise.
They could do with a later licence, friendlier and more attentive staff (it’s not hard to alert people when it’s last orders), and setting their tables or at the very least getting some reserved signs.
Disappointing as I’m a big fan of their cafes, Acid - much better...
Read moreStay away from that place. We went with three friends and had spent over €70 on wine and food. I asked for some ice in my wine (a personal taste), and suddenly they refused to serve us anything more. When I politely asked why, the short guy with long hair cowardly refused to even speak to me and shockingly called the police. The officers were clearly annoyed to have their time wasted and left shortly after.
The level of arrogance and absurdity was incredible, and the total lack of basic hospitality was even worse. Their wine is nothing special, just average organic bottles. yet they behave like gatekeepers of some sacred ritual. Even if the wine were exceptional (which I insist is not), a decent place would suggest, not prohibit.
There are far better spots in Madrid that know how to treat people well and serve good wine. Don't waste your time and money going there. It's expensive and pointless. Just another insta...
