La Tuerta Funky Castizo — Restaurant in Madrid

We are two bartenders that came from Israel for my boyfriend’s Birthday to Madrid. I made a reservation for 19:00. Even though night life start late in Madrid, when you make a reservation, you’d expect someone to give you service (since the option is open to reserve). When we came (a bit earlier, at 18:45) and we asked if we could go in (there was no one inside the bar), we were told by the VERY impaciente bartender that we could and set at the bar. It seemed like most of the drink were made up (we weren’t given a menu, he said that they just renewed it and it was in print). From what we understood in Spanish, he was missing half of the ingredients for our cocktails (mostly due the “fuss” he made over the drinks that we ordered). The bartender wasn’t present 3/4 of our stay at the bar and was pretty mean to us, so we didn’t even want to stay for another “made up” drink. Absolutely stunning cocktails and a fantastic wine list! Are you looking for the best cocktail bar in Madrid? Then stop in here now. Yes I know...Salmon Guru is just up the road! We went there too but between the fish and this Funky Castizo we revisited Castizo three times in 4 days and while Salmon was fun and fine we didn't bother returning. If you have to pick between the two come here and stop questioning the decision.

The first night we stopped in we were just going to have one cocktail and carry on to another place. Instead we spent four+ hours at Castizo, closed the place down and never gave any other place a second thought!

Vibes - funky and fun! Noise level - perfect (I don't like a loud bar why are we yelling?). Knowledge of the bar tenders - unparalleled. Is it the widest selection of options out there? No, but you won't miss a single thing that's no there. They also have food which others said was yummy but we didn't sample any. Just stop reading this review and...

No puedo opinar sobre los cócteles que sirven en este establecimiento pues no los probé. Opino sobre la comida pues fui a cenar ayer a este local con un amigo. La parte de arriba está destinada a los cócteles, el sótano al restaurante. El sótano es lúgubre y con música de fondo bastante alta que pedí que bajaran un poco para poder hablar con mi amigo cómodamente. Las Gildas con pulpo que se venden como producto estrella y cool no son nada del otro mundo. Un pequeño trozo de pulpo enlatado pelín correoso ensartado con guindilla y aceituna aderezado de una salsa. Las alcachofas confitadas estaban ricas y las comimos con gusto aunque eran pequeñas y tocábamos a dos por persona. El Hanger Steak con guiso de pimientos asados llamó mi atención en la carta principalmente por el guiso de pimientos. Al poco de pedirlo vino el camarero a decirnos que el precio del plato en la carta (17), no era tal sino que por el hecho de que ese día hacían el plato con otro tipo de carne el precio ascendía a 22... 🙄 Pues nada... Por si no fuera suficiente con la subida improvisada de precio (un restaurante debe cobrar únicamente los precios que pone en carta), cuando llegó el plato el guiso de pimientos brillaba por su ausencia. En su lugar había cuatro exiguos trozos de pimiento seco a la plancha. Adiós al jugoso acompañamiento a la carne que esperaba en forma de guiso. La porción de carne era más que exigua, considerando los 22 euros del plato. Pero lo más irritante de la noche fue que, con apenas gente en el local, tuvimos que esperar más de media hora entre plato y plato, razón por la cual, muertos de hambre pedimos pan en dos ocasiones, pan que nos fue cobrado a 4 euros en la cuenta. Precio total de la cena, sin postre (no pedimos porque queríamos largarnos del sitio cuanto antes): 52 euros.

El camarero que nos atendió, eso sí, muy amable y simpático. Escuchó con atención nuestras quejas o recomendaciones amistosas respecto a los platos y los tiempos de espera y se disculpó por los inconvenientes.

Conclusión: un local pijo alternativo, inflado de precio y nada recomendable para ir a comer, a lo mejor para tomarse un cocktail sí, pero me temo que me fui sin ganas de volver...
