For drinks we ordered a variety of Gin and tonics. These are large and anyone driving shouldn’t drink a whole one. We originally planned to get a pitcher of sangria with the meal but the G&Ts were so large we didn’t finish them until after the meal. Appetizers were Ham croquettes and Crispy eggplant with hummus and honey. We have eaten ham croquettes every day for a week at various restaurants and the ham coquettes at Murillo are the best! The crispy eggplant with hummus was ordered based on other google reviews and they were not wrong. Get the crispy eggplant! It’s very good and very differently from the typical eggplant dish. Skirt steak was a bit chewy and served sliced. Due to the slicing it was a bit cool when it arrived at the table. The final dish was fried eggs over fried potatoes with shaved ibérico ham. This is a rustic dish and was served with perfectly cooked eggs crispy on the outside, fluffy in the inside diced and pan fried potatoes. The ibérico ham provided the salt and elevated the simple dish. Recommended!

It was our first visit to Cafe Murillo. It’s near the Prado on a quiet street. Very charming place, each room as different decor. The service was good. Friendly and helpful especially with my limited Spanish. There are menus available in English and Spanish. The food and drinks were quite good. We started with the crispy eggplant and pimentos de padron. The crispy eggplant was so good. Thin crispy slices with honey and served with hummus. A unique and tasty dish! The peppers were hot with the perfect amount of salt. I went with the curry chicken salad with lettuce and banana bread. Good flavor on the chicken salad and I rarely pass up banana bread. My husband enjoyed his beef, cooked exactly as requested and served with more of the tasty peppers. Overall it was a good dinner at a cute place. We will be back.

Food Quality: in general was quite nice. The starter with fried Yuca is a must. Very good. The salad was fresh and crispy. The burger was a biiig let down. Not only clearly undercooked, but also nothing special at all. Portions: nice decent portions. Drinks: good options. Available some cocktails and refreshing summer drinks. Price: $$$ quite expensive for what we ate. Did not feel it was worth this price. Service: friendly service, but difficult to get their attention most of the time. Atmosphere: tables outside are really nice and very relaxing. Highlights: Yuca. Very nice. Things to improve: burger definitely needs improving, as well as cooking a bit more. Payment Method: CC, cash

We had lunch here after reading an article in a food magazine at home. The venue is lovely, the interior quirky.

The food was partly fantastic (the French onion soup or the passion fruit tiramisu), partly ok, some a bit bland and average. The cocktails and drinks were good.

It must be said that our entire experience felt more like an exercise in a patience endurance game. The waiters we had went out of their way to ignore us - and all other tables in our section. Everything was extremely slow. Nearly impossible to order second drinks or a coffee.

The service was unhelpful. Incredibly rude to a point we took is personally - until we realised that the other tables in our room equally were ignored and unhappy. Nobody around us left a tip. I must stress we usually always do - but after having THE worst, unwelcoming, rude, dismissive, unhelpful service we can even remember anywhere, we didn’t leave a tip either.

To sum it up - it’s a nice place with a very interesting history. But the best thing about it, is clearly their marketing department for managing to get this otherwise below par venue into all the important magazines who help build a reputation that just isn’t justified. It wasn’t cheap for what...

I was visiting with family and came here after going to the Prado Museum. I went into the restaurant to ask for a table for three (in Spanish) and the waitress/staff behind the bar said something in Spanish that I didn’t understand. I said “sorry I don’t understand” and she laughed in my face and then turned to her colleague (a boy) and said something else to him and they both laughed. How do you expect someone foreign to feel when they see this? How is that a misunderstanding? Furthermore, you had empty tables but when I mentioned we wanted a coffee you told us to go and sit outside where it’s cold, when there was a local couple inside having coffee. My parents and I were not impressed and the fact that you can’t even apologise for your unprofessionalism tells me everything I need to know about your restaurant. My friend explained my experience perfectly so let me see your explanation for the...
