Restaurante El Buey — Restaurant in Madrid

Tourists beware!!! Let me just start by saying food gets 5stars. The service and our overall experience is 3stars. We found this place on Google and went because it was close to us. The menu outside mentions half portions and I liked that because I didn't think I could finish the full portions. We went in and it was quite empty. The waiter greets us and mentions his English is not very good. He gives us a menu with only full portions. I ask for half portion and he says they recommend full portions but I still ask for half. My husband orders an appetizer and his meal. After we order the waiter gives us bread and butter that we did not order. Food comes and my dish seems very big, I just assumed it was a half portion because that is what I asked for. When we get the bill, we were charged for the bread we did not order and I was charged for a full portion. I did not finish my food because it was too much. Why have options for half portions of you don't want people to get it? I feel like they purposely take advantage...

I was very content with this restaurant. The servers were very kind and asked me understanding of his poor English, but it was fairly enough to take an order and to show his hospitality. The interior was neat and the atmosphere was not that loud but in ease. There are two things you should remember. Bread, cheese and butter are not complimentary but served. Traditional Spanish restaurant, specialized in meat dishes. We came already at 8.30 p.m. so we were the first ones in the entire restaurant. The place filled up with people at around 9 30. Very friendly staff. We had the hot stone/plate dish, excellent beef with fries on the side, which is quite typical, wouldn't be my choice of side dish but a I said, the meat was really good.
