Food is divine and the wine fantastic. But oh my, the service. Perhaps the worst service I have received in Madrid. After delivering the English menus, the person refused to take our order for 20+ minutes until the other person working behind the bar had a word and pointed in our direction. He unwillingly approached our table.
Not a word. He took our order with reluctance. Then when we asked about the wine, he pointed at the board with utter disdain. Not a word again. After trying to order off the blackboard, he answers with "What?". After my second attempt, another "What?". I say "Well, the fourth one on the list". He rolls his eyes and says "Name?". After finally getting our order in, he turns around as if it was the most unpleasant thing to do.
What is most perplexing is that if they don't want tourists, they shouldn't offer an English Menu. It is laughable about how it seems there seemed to be much dislike in doing one's job.
I believe it unfortunately relates to a single person and I can't in all honesty recommend this to anyone who can't speak Spanish lest they encounter this waiter and it ruins what otherwise would be an extremely pleasant experience. Note also it looks like we were not the only one to have the unfortunate luck to have this one waiter serve us as there are several reviews that repeat the unwelcomeness felt and the lack of any professionalism.
In saying that, the other person behind the bar seemed to be fine and professional, the food was amazing and some of the best we have had in Madrid. The wine selctions themselves seemed to be well chosen.
But it can't balance what an unpleasant and unwelcoming experience that one leaves with - a certainly unpleasant taste in the mouth and it is not from the food...
Read moreSecond time coming to this place after a few years. The first time was super good. This time not that much. Good food, service at the bar was not good unless you’re a regular and speak Spanish. Looked like the guy was doing us a favor. Service at the table was much better the waiter was more attentive and he kinda noticed we were not being offered anything at the bar and changed us to a table. At the end of the night they added an extra of 4.50€ at the end of the bill “VARIOS” without saying anything. NOT cool. Even if you speak Spanish you kinda need to know how the place works because they didn’t explain more than the menu is on the wall read and ask what you want. The place is not cheap for Spain and considering the experience I wouldn’t recommend it. Food is good but there is so many more places with good food in Madrid for me to come back to this one. We stayed because we were hungry, it was late and they moved...
Read moreWent in during lunch. I didn't speak Spanish. Was given a Spanish menu. I ordered a salmorejo and confirmed it's soup. The service person didn't know English. And he was like "si si si". Food came and it turned out to be bread? And then I was like where is the soup? He then brought out an English menu. He could have brought it out earlier but he didn't. He was very rude as well and it feels like he didn't want me to be there at all, no greetings no smiles when I walked in unlike other places in Madrid. Anyway back to the menu. It still says breast grilled quail with salmojero. Where is the soup? Did I get it wrong and salmojero is not supposed to be soup? Cause at other restaurants it definitely is and Google showed photos of soup. Meant to try the grilled squid but had too bad an experience here and canceled...
