If you've ever walked past Duke's when it's open you'll notice something ... it's jam packed!! Aside from the ultra cool surfer vibe, great tunes and vibrant trendy-yet-relaxed decor ... the food, oh the food....The food is fantastic!
We ordered 3 totally different dishes: Mexican tacos, Persian Aubergine, and (Thai) Duck Salad. As lover of all things fresh, raw, vibrant, flavourful and plant-based, their meals hit the spot on every level. That they have an un-abased love of aubergine spoke to me deeply too - I am eggplant crazy! They have a small menu but if you like exciting flavours and lots of veggies - then no doubt it all rocks.
On the down side though - we both felt they'd over used the sweet chili sauce on the duck salad, and dramatically under-supplied us with the crispy duck :-(
The death by chocolate pudding certainly was extremely rich - but lacked the depth and interest of flavours promised by their main meals, and didn't have the panache that one would expect from a great dark chocolate pudding.
But these are small critiques in what was a brilliant meal. We loved the fun, personal, worldly menu, and their bold risk taking in the choice of ingredients and heat of their sauces! It's great. It works. We can't wait to go back to try the rest of the dishes...
Read moreAs a parent of an 18 month old who is at best indifferent to dining out options and at worst a little monster, we couldn’t have found a better place to eat. The staff were wonderful and made us (and especially him) so welcome including some free banana chips and some drawing/colouring in stuff. There was a kids menu which was a breath of fresh air (the previous night we tried to coax him into eating some croquettes in a steak restaurant we went to). The food was excellent - his and ours - including avocado nuggets, burger and Thai salad - and the atmosphere was great. We were an early walk-in and they accommodated us kindly but we saw several other walk-ins later who weren’t able to secure a table so I would recommend booking ahead. Can’t speak highly enough of how relaxed and friendly they were to us and it made our dining experience with a young child exceptional. Our bill included a lovely bottle of wine so would otherwise have...
Read moreSOS RESIDENTS, review in English for the only favoured customers which are not Spanish. As a mallorquina I am aware of the gentrification in Mallorca and particularly of Sta Catalina, which unfortunately is now a Swedish/Germany colony/amusement park but never to the point where I felt like I was a second-class customer. First, we were the only Spanish group and were put in the most uncomfortable shared table in the corner (we had booked well in advance), took forever for the waiters to take our order, sometimes openly ignoring us while running to the German table next to us. And the prices!? 47eurs per person for barely 4 shared dishes among 3 people, the portions not that big and quality a 6/10. A glass of wine is 6.40eurs which is ridiculous in Spain. I hadn’t been in years at Duke but now wont be returning, as locals seem...
