Heavily overhyped. Simply an Instagram place (just take a picture and go):
Maybe the reason for the bad experience was that the staff still have been on their New Year’s Eve hangover or maybe the explanation is more likely that this place is overrated as it is recommended by Engel & Völkers, Marcel Reymus and other hipster webpages & travel blogs.
But judge our experience from today yourself: After we read about “Santina Brunch&More” on the above webpages we thought to give it a try for the 1st of January brunch. We showed up at around 1pm after the peak brunch time was finished, the atmosphere was nice, still one or another empty table, three service staff around, and took place outside. After studying the menu we decided for cappuccino, fresh orange juice and the Flying Dutchman (Eggs Benedict). We wanted to order croissants but fair enough they have been running out of them as breakfast starts at 8am (the service staff explained).
First the cappuccino arrived, the taste of the coffee and the quality of the milk foam could be rated maximum average. The cappuccino was half warm. Second, the orange juice was squeezed “freshly” hours or even one day before. Third, the Eggs Benedict arrived looking quite different than the pictures on the web but still expectedly Instagram sufficient. The staff just put the plates and went away. After he left we have been wondering why the sauce hollandaise is missing. We mentioned that, and the staff said that the sauce is standing at the bar and will arrive in a minute. Instead of the sause another waiter showed up and said that they have been running out of hollandaise and asked what he can do for us! We ordered two eggs for compensation and started to eat. The waffles have been totally cold and dry, the bacon as well. The quality of the salmon was good but you need to search for it on the plate ;) In the end, the additional eggs didn’t show up. The third waiter came and wanted to carry our plates away without knowing something about the eggs. When we asked about the invoice, the brief answer was that we need to come inside for paying the bill. To be fair, for the compensation was: they cancelled the cappuccino (total value of 3.5 €). We paid to the same waiter who was forgetting our eggs and didn’t inform us about the missing sauce. He didn’t apologize and just presented the invoice. It happens extremely rarely that we don’t tip, but this time I guess it was...
Read moreFood was nice but more of the same in brunch places. Eggs done a few different ways, coffees overpriced at nearly 3€ for an americano, etc.
Choices for brunch if you don't eat eggs are quite scarce. I had the chicken sandwich and was nice but my wife had the veggie wrap and was ok but dull, nothing special.
The service was quite bad though. Only one member of staff seemed to know what was doing (the Spanish one) and the other girl, the blonde one was stressed out, out of her depth and borderline rude.
To top it all up I added extra avo (for 3€ in the menu) to my sandwich and got half a very small not completely ripe avocado. Fine. To my surprise I see they added an extra euro to the avocado extra and I complained. The same blonde person told me no, it was correct in a bad way and I had to show her the menu. She then said fine but then insisted there was a euro missing from the total bill. I don't care about a euro so I paid but their attitude after their mistake was terrible, aggressive and arrogant.
I will not be going back. Food is nice but service is terrible and place is overpriced for the whole Santa Catalina hype. Plenty better places for...
