Extremely disappointing and discriminatory experience – not worthy of a world-class destination
I visited Hotel Les Trois Rois during Art Basel, expecting high standards of hospitality, safety, and professionalism. Instead, I encountered a deeply misogynistic and discriminatory attitude, particularly from the hotel security staff.
This hotel is shockingly unfriendly towards women. Any man can make even the slightest comment about a woman—guest or visitor—and security will immediately side with the man without investigating or listening to the woman’s side of the story. It was alarming to witness such blind favoritism and bias. This kind of outdated, patriarchal behavior has no place in modern Switzerland, let alone in a hotel that markets itself as "luxury" and "world-class."
The behavior I observed from staff was not just dismissive but completely unprofessional and unacceptable. As a woman, I did not feel safe, welcome, or respected. It felt like stepping into another era—one where a woman’s word meant nothing and male guests held all the power, no matter how inappropriate or unfounded their behavior was.
If you value equality, dignity, and respectful treatment, I urge you to stay elsewhere. Art Basel brings international visitors who expect a cosmopolitan level of service. Les Trois Rois failed spectacularly on that front. This is not just a bad hotel experience—it's a shame for Swiss hospitality as a whole.
Avoid this hotel if you're a woman traveling alone, with friends, or simply someone who believes in...
Read moreRight on the Rhine River this is my favorite French restaurant in Basel. It is definitely formal and a bit expensive but not expensive compared to restaurants in other larger cities like NYC or Paris or Michelin starred prefix menus. I feel that it is totally worth it especially if you’re a tourist and really want to soak in some of the best sites of the city. The restaurant has a very romantic vibe so it would be great for a date, dinner with friends or family, or something more social versus a business location. Our server was extremely polite and all around there was top-notch five star service. Everything that we ordered came out pretty fast and to say that they were very attentive would be an understatement.
I started off my meal with a really nice glass of Bordeaux and it really got my hunger going for what was ahead. For my starter I chose the Saumon Marine which is basically a Salmon Crudo and I thought it was great. It was light and refreshing and woke up my taste buds for my entrée, which was the Sole Meunière. I’ve had this dish many times in my life at many different locations and this was one of the better ones I’ve had in a long time. It was made perfectly and the flavors lasted throughout the rest of the night. I would highly recommend ordering it and I also would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. It was one of our more memorable moments of our...
Read moreBrasserie les Trois Rois in Basel is an exceptional dining experience that truly exceeded my expectations. Despite its high scale, the quality of the food and service is absolutely amazing. The menu is carefully curated and the dishes are expertly prepared, showcasing a true mastery of French cuisine.
One of the highlights of my meal was the wine selection, which was truly impressive. The Pouilly-Fumé in particular was a standout, with its crisp and refreshing flavor that paired perfectly with the food. The sommelier was also incredibly knowledgeable and was able to recommend the perfect wine to complement our meal.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is also noteworthy, with beautiful art pieces adorning the walls in a striking teal color. The space is elegant and refined, making it the perfect setting for a special occasion or a romantic dinner.
My only critique would be that during my visit, the waiter seemed to assume that the bill should be brought to the man at the table rather to me, even if I was the one asking for it.
Nevertheless, I would still highly recommend Brasserie les Trois Rois to anyone looking for an upscale dining experience in Basel. The pre-set lunch menu is also a great value, offering a taste of the restaurant's signature dishes at a more affordable...
