If you’re in Basel, with all due respect, you might as well go eat somewhere else. First of as to not be harsh, apparently the pizzas are good but we haven’t tried them.
When we arrived with our reservation we asked whether it would be possible to have a table on the terrace to which the waitresses scoffed and kept on talking between them while repeating no in German. Complimentary olives were already on our table - that was the best food we had there.
Then arrived the bruschetta we ordered… it was so underwhelming. The bread honestly had no taste. When we asked about the pastas for allergens the waitress was super brief in her answers and seemed annoyed to answer. We settled for a carbonara but honestly, that should have rung a bell… major red flag. On the menu, the carbonara is said to be made with cream, bacon, and egg… Then IT arrived. Presentation nicely executed will give them that. However, we’ll obviously wouldn’t call it a carbonara if it has cream and bacon, but let’s continue by calling it the cream spaghetti. They were super heavy, the meat was barely cooked. The size of the portion was more than okay, it was pretty big actually. So if you enjoy Mountain/Chalet pasta why not try theirs.
They also charged us 4 francs for tap water.
Overall, service was mediocre and food was really not up to the quality considering the price. Honestly, we could have chosen another place but we fell for what seems a tourist trap. The view on the Rhine is very nice indeed, probably that’s what...
Read moreI booked a table a month in advance for a special birthday celebration and had it confirmed twice over the phone, plus received an email confirmation with the correct date and time. I made it clear that this was an important occasion—my mother-in-law’s birthday, during her visit to Basel—and wanted everything to go smoothly. The reservation was for a Thursday, not even a weekend.
Unfortunately, when we arrived, the entire place was in chaos. Staff were running around, clearly overwhelmed, which I can understand to some extent. However, from the moment we walked in, the service was poor. We were left standing for several minutes, barely acknowledged, while being bumped into by busy waiters.
After confirming our reservation at the entrance, we were told to go upstairs to the terrace. When we got there, it turned out our table was already occupied by others, and there was no space left at all. It was completely disorganised and very stressful.
This level of mismanagement and lack of responsibility is unacceptable, especially after multiple confirmations. To make matters worse, I sent a complaint email and never received any response. Extremely disappointing experience for what was meant to be a...
Read more•We found this restaurant while walking down the street looking for lunch. To find the place, you need to go up the stairs at the entrance and head to the second floor. It’s a spacious venue, both inside and outside. I recommend sitting outside because the view of the river is beautiful!
•The service was okay, neither exceptional nor particularly friendly. There wasn’t anything notably bad, but it was just average. While it met the basic expectations, it didn’t stand out in any way. Improving the service could enhance the overall experience.
•We ordered the Risotto Gamberi (CHF 33.50) and the Kalbs Cordon Bleu (CHF 42.50). Both dishes were very good, but once again, they were just good, neither breathtaking nor surprising in terms of flavor. They were well-prepared and satisfying, but the taste was quite basic. A bit more creativity or unique seasoning could have elevated the dishes. (Prices from JUN/2024)
•The experience was not bad but also not memorable. Because of this, even if we return to Basel, we likely wouldn’t consider revisiting the restaurant.
