Nón Lá Vietnamese Kitchen - Nón Lá refers to the hat worn by Vietnamese people to shield from sun and rain. There is also a location in New York City, East Village. In Basel, I ordered the Chicken Pho, which was delicious. It is cooked with tender chicken thigh (tenderness, of any protein, is something I rate very highly) and although this is self-serve, requiring you to order and pick-up at counter, the staff are friendly, and the restaurant and outside dining area are clean with great atmosphere. Restaurant is also close to public transportation in several directions and also close to city centre, which is within walking distance at about 10 minutes down hill. Vietnamese cuisine is not often a first choice of many diners, however, if you have never given it a try, you will be pleasantly surprised with the fresh, layered flavors of this Vietnamese menu.

What a delightful surprise! Beautifully presented plates of all the dishes one expects to find in a Vietnamese restaurant in Europe (by that I mean that you won't easily find tendon, tripe or fish balls for your Pho). Our beef Pho had a well-made broth, good rice flour noodles and excellent vegetables included pristine cilantro. Summer rolls were carefully prepared and the papaya salad refreshing. The duck bun featured crisp stripes of meat, perfectly done. Service is friendly, solicitous, and efficient. A place to return to.

One of the weirdest and worst restaurant experiences in recent memory. Their hours were wong on Google and they argued with me saying they were correct, as we stood there at 9:34pm with them saying they were closed and me holding their listing open showing open until 10pm. Then they sold us two spring rolls, despite the menu clearly showing 4 spring rolls. Again they tried to argue and tell me my eyes were deceiving me. Rude staff, bizarre experience. And mediocre spring rolls.

Well presented plates and nice to have Asian restaurants in Basel that strive to transport the street food vibe of Asia to Basel. Much needed! The smells in the street are always tempting.

I've only had several takeouts over the past months, but without having seen inside the kitchen it seems as tho the food falls prey to looking healthy whilst being flavoured with the sorts of sauces that are pumped full of preservatives E-numbers and flavour enhancers.

This being the case, ostensibly healthy looking food is actually not quite so. It's a shame because really good (and tasty) fish, soy and oyster sauces are available to flavour these good looking dishes. The same goes for the coconut ingredients. Given the popularity of the restaurant, it's a shame they don't seem...
