Mohler Bäckerei Konditorei — Restaurant in Unterseen

05/23/2025 around 11am Before heading back to our airbnb to get our stuff, we decided to have our last meal in Switzerland at this famous bakery in the heart of Interlaken. After choosing our meals from the foods displayed, my boyfriend straightaway went to order food at the counter, and I meanwhile was holding a box of donuts, proceeded to an empty table and asked the lady (the one in charge of serving the orders) if it's okay to sit at that table.

To which she answered, "you cannot eat that here!" pertaining to the donuts

I replied, "yes yes I wont eat this here, my boyfriend is ordering food for us" while pointing at my boyfriend who's at the counter ordering food

While she could've said so simply, "okay the table is free",

She answered back with sarcasm, "this is not a picnic!"

I got offended and felt a little embarrassed.

She was rude. Her behaviour would have been (maybe) acceptable if she actually sees me eating the donuts.

We then just decided to have our meals and drinks (which we ordered from them) outside because the air inside was already off.

By the way the box of donuts I was holding which we intentionally ordered for takeaway from another store were meant to be our snacks on our long train ride to Milan. It was already our 3rd time in Switzerland and it's the first time we encountered such a rude behaviour. Dont think we will come to this bakery again.

Such a shame we encountered this on our last day in Switzerland.

And nope! We didnt eat a single donut!

Doesnt hurt to be a little kinder u know...especially if the person is polite to you in...

This charming corner bakery in Interlaken is hands-down the best I've ever visited - you simply must try it! They serve the freshest, most exquisite pastries and pies, where every bite proves why this place is so special. I had heard about this bakery through a YouTube video and it did not disappoint! The pastries here are delicious and definitely freshly baked. The staff however ruin the atmosphere of this place. We had ordered pastries and cappuccinos and asked for them to be in takeaway containers (in case we didn’t finish and wanted to take them with us). As we were enjoying their wonderful patio, the waitress quite rudely reprimanded us and explained to us “what the word takeaway means.” We were told we were only allowed to eat on their patio if we ordered “for here” containers.

I’m a bit confused why this matters. They are not working for a tip since you order everything at the counter and it’s not like we had brought in outside food and drink.

So, while I recommend this place, it seems that they have weird rules and unprofessional attitudes. Eat here...
