Hello,
I am reviewing Restaurant La Barrique (a part of Hotel Perren) regarding a dinning experience at Aug 2024…
I filled out the review on Expedia however the comments re restaurant were removed. Below is what was written on the review.
First of all I preface that the Hotel Perren staff was excellent A+++... exceptionally professional and courteous. The best in every way.
The restaurant experience (Susana) complete opposite of hotel staff.
We sat in the hotel restaurant for a bite to eat and ordered still water. Susana our waitress brought us sparkling water and poured 2 glasses for my wife and I. I then mentioned that we had ordered still water and Susana acknowledged her error and brought us a bottle (unopened) of still water but no empty glasses. We have only touched the menu at this point and never touched the waters or glasses. Susana then came over to take our food order. My wife and I wanted to share a meal as we were both not real hungry and it was early afternoon and maybe 20% busy in the restaurant. Susana indicated that we could not share an order but would have to order 2 separate meals. I told her to give us a minute to discuss. After proceeding to walk out, Susana asked if we liked the menu? I told her that we would have liked to share a meal. Susana insisted that we pay for the sparkling water that we never touched in her error. Not to make a scene, we paid 7 CHF for the water and left.
This restaurant experience I believe is an exception 1 off as every other restaurant in the area had no problem with my wife and I sharing a meal. They welcomed the business. I will never walk into the Alpine Hotel Perren restaurant again. It was the only negative experience during our 2 week trip to Switzerland.
Again the Hotel staff Alpine Hotel Perren excellent A+... The Restaurant La Barrique experience (Susana) just...
Read moreWe ate here twice during our trip to Zermatt. We skied for 4 days and ate here twice because literally the food is some of the best tasting I've ever had. The wine variety is great and the staff know their list very well. The first time around I had the Käsebällchen (cheeseballs) as an appetizer and the Deer Entrèćote as my main. Both were delicious. I also tried some of the cream carrot soup which was excellent. Lightly balanced with only smaller hints of carrot, the cream was perfectly balanced and not too heavy either. The second time around I had the tomato soup which was to die for and the three course Tagesmenu which was the specialty hor'dvoires, wild boar entrecote, and the chocolate mouse for desert. During the meals both times, the chef sent out tastings of new and inspired dishes to try (very nice touch for a mini pre-appetizer) and during both meals, the owner of the restaurant came by and refilled our glasses and chatted with us a little bit as well. Definitely a highlight spot of our Austrian-Swiss vacation! The pictures are of my favorite beer from here as well as a chef creation of some sort of avocado dish that was a pre-appetizer. The second photo is the Chocolate Mouse for...
Read moreWatch out - you might get robbed there during or after dinner.
We had dinner at the restaurant in December, and everything was normal, pretty average/ok food.
When we left, my girlfriend quickly realised she had forgotten her handbag at the restaurant. We immediately called them to notify them and we spoke to someone called Pedro who told us « Don’t worry we have your bag, come pick it up tomorrow in the morning ». So we decided to trust them...
...The next day we came to pickup the handbag and to our surprise, the money inside (more than 200usd) had been stolen, with only 5 usd bills left. We immediately complained and asked the manager how this was possible. Their reply: « Can you prove you had money? No? Then it’s your problem ». Of course the money was never found. We feel we should therefore warn other people who might have a similar experience: I would recommend NOT to go to this place, you might get robbed during or after dinner, and this is the last thing you want to experience when you’re having a peaceful family...
