...if waiters mess up an order, there are many ways to resolve the issue and keep people happy. Being defensive about the mix-up, and then charging the customer because they started eating a similar, but wrong dish is certainly one way to approach the situation, but one that warrants a bad review. Thus, the one you're reading :) In short, both avocado salads contained bacon. Not a big deal, as our group wasn't vegetarian, just trying to be healthy. It wasn't clear right at the beginning either, but after eating a significant part of it - happens when you're engaged in conversation. However, when the waiter was asked about it, he wasn't much help and in the end put the bacon on the bill, since it was an 'extra' - one that we definitely hadn't ordered and would have been happier about without. When asked about it, he deferred to the manager - I'm sure that is protocol at the place, but one that slows things down tremendously and makes people wait. A pub's attraction is generally made of atmosphere, staff, other patrons, and to the least of all food and, of course, drinks.

The Lion pub has great and friendly staff. It's attracts a nice and pleasant crowd. Its drinks are fine, its chips are great, the food is not bad at all.

Every visit there is a win. Warmly recommended.

UPDATE: Few places in Zurich have this warmth of a welcoming staff that has a keen sense of what you and your guests might be there for and are providing a service that just makes one thing clear - they know what you need, they understand what you expect and make you feel in a pub that rivals any of the best places you might have gotten to know and love...

Pros: Really happy to find a descent pub which shows tri nations rugby. Nice ambience, plenty of bigger screens for sports, staff were attentive. Swiss prices naturally but worth it. Cons: The food needed some tweaking, I ordered the chicken club sandwich which was drenched in coleslaw which was overkill considering it came with a bowl of coleslaw on the side. The friend ordered what looked like a good greasy 'hangover cure' beef burger although the bun fell apart pretty quickly.
