We visited Chiang Mai over the Christmas period with friends and wanted to go somewhere special.
We hadn’t felt the spirit of Christmas yet (being from Europe and having a hot Christmas is not familiar) but the restaurant had been decorated beautifully, Christmas treats adorned the entrance and there was even a hand made gingerbread house!
As soon as we arrived at OWL, the team were very welcoming and attentive, and nothing was too much trouble. We did not have a reservation on Christmas Day, and thought they might not be able to fit us in. Kate (one of the owners) explained that they were fully booked inside, however there was a table available in the beautiful outdoor courtyard area.
The menu had been beautifully created by Chef Roman, who chatted with us after our meal and gave us an insight into his background and the ingredients he uses.
The menu was well balanced, with options and considerations kept in mind for all diners. There was also a special Christmas Day menu, with Turkey. We were torn on what to choose, so opted to share 4 dishes from the main menu to start; Duck Liver Butter, Raclette, Venison Flatbread and the Salmon & Scallop Carpaccio.
For our Main course we all decided on the Stuffed Turkey Leg with Roasted Potatoes, Carrots & Sprouts, served with a Rich Jus & Bread Sauce.
We were too full to have a dessert, but opted for some traditional German sweet treats with our coffees after.
All the dishes were all expertly crafted and cooked to perfection, the flavours well balanced and complemented one another and the portion sizes were very generous.
The prices in our opinion are very reasonable for the quality of ingredients and experience.
We highly recommend OWL to anyone looking for a special meal whilst in Chiang Mai and will...
Read moreThis restaurant was recommended to us by a friend who has been here no less than four times in the month that it has been opened, which pretty much says it all.
It is in a convenient location in a quiet street in the Old City. There is ample parking.
The decor and furnishings are modern and elegant and the interior is spacious so diners are not crowded together and are comfortable and have plenty of space to dine. The menu is interesting and varied and as a couple we shared a very tasty main dish of pork tenderloin with an accompaniment of four side dishes. All of these were expertly prepared and presented by a very efficient and attentive staff who hit the right level in every respect, hence the five star rating.
This fantastic meal was accompanied by a very decent and reasonably priced bottle of Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon. For this dinner for two, including wine, we paid just over THB 2,000, which we thought very reasonable for this quality of food, service and ambience.
On leaving we noticed that there is a Confectionary counter which has some of the most mouth watering chocolates and confectionary for sale. These are simply irresistible and I think I’m safe in saying that there is nowhere else in Chiang Mai selling such beautiful and tasty chocolates. Seriously, whether for yourselves or as an exquisite gift for others, these are not to be missed.
The Owl Brasserie is a top notch, well run restaurant that ticks all the boxes. We shall definitely...
Read moreVery impressive dinner at Owl Brasserie on 15 February.
We booked over their website in advance and had a glance of the menu beforehand.
The restaurant is located in a quite neighborhood the old city but just a few minutes walk to the main road. It was renovated from an old house with a spacious indoor which also can view the operation of the kitchen and a large patio that have a giant old tree. The whole ambience from the first step to the restaurant is tranquil.
I love their deco, furniture and all the table ware, especially the clay, wood & shades of blue.
Lady owner was friendly & kind, she's very warm & love the share the is history of the heritage house as well as the background of head chef.
We had a very enjoyable dinner from the friendly service team, the lovely live music and of course the food we had.
All the food we had from welcome canapes, appetiters, warm bread, main course to dessert can see, taste & feel how much efforts behind been made. Presentation is great and I found they put the details in little aspects even on the side dishes & gravy which most appreciated.
Owl Brasserie is one of the best restaurants I've been to. The time i was having dinner, already told myself I have to come back again on next trip to Chiangmai. The only regret was I came too late for the dinner so it's a bit rush.
Thank you very...
