Good gracious this is an excellent and authentic Mexican restaurant nestled in the heart of Bangkok. Without question some of the best Mexican food I've found in all of Southeast Asia. Cash, credit cards and probably e-wallet payments accepted. Full bar featuring plenty of tequila and mezcal as well as other less-well known South-of-the-Border beverage options (sotol, bacanora, raicilla). Live music on Fridays and Saturdays featuring iconic Mexican-ish tunes such as La Bamba and La Cucaracha.
The ambiance here is great. Low lighting. Mostly Mexican-themed music but that gives way to more hip-hop stylings as it gets darker outside. Tables for two to six, plus some bar seating. Good AC. Small table lights. Great spot for a date or a gathering of friends. Music isn't painfully loud.
Menu is extensive and features a a great profile of Mexican flavors and inspirations. Tacos, enchiladas, tortas and more. Rich flavor profiles and authenticity in their choice of chilis (jalapenos rather than Asian chili varietals) make a big difference in the final product.
The guacamole is delicious - not too salty or citrusy, thick with large pieces of avocado rather than smooth and blended. Served with small sides of pico de gallo and diced jalapeno and a bowl of very authentic and sturdy tortilla chips, also salted appropriately.
The torta is generous and the flavors are good and I highly recommend the pork carnitas option. Pork is tender and very flavorful. Good balance of lettuce, onion and tomato as well as some guacamole and sauce (not straight mayo). Bread was soft and fresh and capable of withstanding the wet ingredients.
On a return visit I was disappointed by the tacos. The lengue (tongue) was very tender but the thin corn tortilla was wholly inadequate to containing it. Had to finish with a fork. The carne asada was delicious but soaked in grease. Probably 1/4 cup dripped out as I squeezed it and it was still very moist. Again the tortilla was inadequate. Flavors are fine though.
Their Paloma is bright and flavorful even when using Jose Cuervo as their house tequila. Their mango chili margarita is delightful and packs a modest but respectable level of heat both from the slice of raw jalapeno mixed in as well as the salt & chili flakes rim on the glass. Not too thick and very well balanced between citrus & sweet. Tequilas range from Jose Cuervo to Clase Azul. Plenty of options to suit a variety of budgets and the opportunity to explore other delectable desert derivatives as well.
Service here is excellent, personable and in English. They offered me a complimentary appetizer of small tortillas with a bit of melted cheese served with a small dipping sauce. The bartender was happy to discuss tequila and other beverages with me. I will happily return here again and again to try other...
Read moreHello Google Community,
I am writing an honest review about the restaurant and it's staff, We were staying in La Petite Salil which is in same facility and both of these places have internal access to each other.
On 25th Dec 2023, I have to get back to India so inline to policy of La Petite Salil, I checked out at 12PM, however my flight was at 8 PM from Don Mueng Airport, so I thought to order food from an Indian restaurant and requested La Petite hotel to suggest where I can consume lunch with my family (myself, wife and a kid), to my surprise hotel said that they don't have any place to allow us to consume lunch, I requested if they can ask Molino restaurant (in which we were having our complimentary breakfast everyday), they simply denied.
Next I checked with Molino restaurant manager, he was in denial mode however when I said that we will order french fries (due to limited Veg. options there) he accepted and as soon as we opened our lunch he pushed us a lot to order some drink also with limited alcoholic options only but we denied and after a lot of push we finally ordered a water bottle (charged 400 INR).
On top of it restaurant charged 10% service charge and 7% VAT that was not even disclosed to us before.
Restaurant manager was so furious that through out our lunch (which hardly lasted for 10 minutes) was around our tale only and just to remind you restaurant was closed at that time and not even a single customer was there.
On top of it with such behaviour he mentioned to rate him 5 star because he wants Indian customers there, I will not at all recommend anybody to visit that restaurant with such a pathetic manager and nosy behaviour by staff.
Nobody can push you to order any dish in a restaurant but that guy taken advantage out of our situation (Vegeterian and non-alcoholic) to earn some peanuts and this priceless review.
Please be aware of such fraudsters during your trip to Bangkok, wishing you...
Read moreThough still one of the newer kids on the block, if my experience is anything to go by, Molino Bangkok is definitely here to stay. As avid Mexican food lovers, me and my husband were on the hunt for a good new Mexican place to try out. And boy, did Molino deliver.
Before we even stepped foot in the restaurant, we were greeted at the door by the owner. His warm welcome truly set the tone for the rest of the evening.
The attentive and friendly staff led us to through the beautifully and vibrantly decorated restaurant to our table and we got started with a round of margaritas and tuna tartar tacos. To say that these tacos blew us away would be an understatement. The crunchy shell perfectly complimented the delectable tuna tartar, starting our dinner off with an absolute homerun. The margaritas were delicious, boasting high-quality ingredients and going down a treat.
Although the tuna tartar tacos remained the highlight of the night for us (so much so we just had to get a second round), you really can't go wrong with any order. The baja fish tacos and baja cauliflower tacos were scrumptious, while my husband also loved the beef tongue variety. I can confidently say from our experience, that any order at Molino will be an absolute treat.
We even had a chance to have a quick chat with the owner Lenny, who's passion for his work and restaurant is definitely reflected in each and every detail and dish of the place.
All in all, Molino Bangkok is a truly great new spot in Bangkok and well worth visiting. We made our next booking before...
