The experience here can vary depending on whether it’s dead or starting to get busy (and by that I mean if there’s more than just a few tables occupied). Get unlucky with the latter and the potential is there for the food and service to be poor.
Went a few days ago, midweek in the afternoon. Probably only 5 customers. Ordered a Pepperoni Pizza. Came quickly, very hot, obviously freshly cooked and really good (picture 1) and was accompanied by a generous portion of a chilli type sauce in a dish..
Few days later went on Saturday afternoon, 5pm. Busier but nowhere near full. Ordered a pork steak and the same pizza. Steak came after about 15 minutes and, what I thought was our pizza, a few minutes later. This pizza though was taken to a table behind us where the customers had arrived literally just minutes before. Even then I thought it was strange that they had arrived, ordered, and got their pizza almost immediately.
Waited a further 20 minutes, still no pizza. Complained to a waitress who, after going to check, said they had mistakenly given my pizza to a wrong table!
Another 10 minutes, still no pizza, complained to the waitress AGAIN and said I would be sending the steak back, paying for the beers and leaving if it wasn’t sorted fast. I should have done just that! Waitress asked if I wanted to see the manager and I said yes. What I got was someone who appeared to be a head waitress. She said sorry and seemed not too happy to hear that the previous waitress had told me that they had sent my pizza order to the wrong table.
In response to the question about what they would do about the fact that people mostly actually want to eat together and the now cold steak she said they would heat it up!! Cook a meal fresh then because you screw up expect the customer to eat a reheated meal that then becomes tough and dry! Unbelievable.
Pizza eventually arrived, along with the now microwaved steak, and the pizza was absolutely terrible. Burnt, dry, air pockets in the dough base, maybe the pizza that should have gone to the table that had ours that they put in the oven to heat up again, and luke warm. The sauce that came with it this time was barely a spoonful (remaining pictures). That Hemmingways are content to send garbage like that out to a table speaks volumes about the standards there, I wouldn’t have given this to a dog!
Ate the meal because we were by now really hungry and asked for the bill, leaving half of one drink unfinished. We just wanted to get out. Hemingways had already done a good enough job of spoiling our evening. Only ‘good’ thing was the pizza was not on the bill, and that was only ‘good’ in that it saved me from hassle of explaining why I would refuse to pay for it.
Overall, absolutely terrible experience. Biggest mistake that night was going to Hemmingways. Second mistake was not sending back the steak when the pizza still hadn’t arrived 20 minutes later and leaving, paying only for the drinks. Definitely NOT a place we will EVER go to again and will never recommend to friends. Quality is way too hit and miss and when it goes wrong their management of the situation is simply atrocious, actually...

Had a lovely dinner at Hemingway’s on Soi 11 this past Tuesday night after a friend told me about their half-price steak night starting at 7 PM — and wow, what a great tip!
We grabbed a table on the edge of the patio, and honestly, the evening breeze was absolutely perfect. Sitting outside, soaking in the vibe of Soi 11, watching the world go by… it was all going so well until the infamous “watch sellers” made their rounds. 😅 Unfortunately, they came by several times, disrupting our conversation and meal. I get that it’s part of Bangkok’s charm, but it would be amazing if the restaurant could somehow help create a better buffer between diners and sidewalk solicitors — especially on that edge seating.
That aside, the food was solid. We started with the nachos and guacamole — delicious, but honestly, the portion of nachos was a bit light for two people sharing. A few more chips would go a long way!
I ordered the trio of sliders, which was perfectly portioned and super satisfying. My friend (the steak connoisseur who invited me) went all in on the Pixhuna steak — and it did not disappoint! Juicy, well-seasoned, and a steal at half-price.
🍷 He also had a glass of red wine that he said paired beautifully with the steak. The whole night felt like a cozy hangout with a touch of class.
💡 Room for improvement: Just that one major issue with being constantly approached while dining. If Hemingway’s could find a way to manage that better — especially for outdoor diners — it would seriously elevate the experience.
✅ All in all, a great night. Would definitely come back for Tuesday steak night again (maybe opt for a table more inside).

Read moreI've been here about 4 times now and overall the service, drinks and food have been excellent. If they were overly expensive I would remember but I can't recall a bill that made me pause or ask questions.
For the budget conscious, you won't find Thai street food prices here.
The staff could be a bit more attentive, but are beyond eager and patient once you've gotten their attention. If you're going in the evening I would recommend reservations as it's super rare for Hemingway's to not be full.
The atmosphere here can range from slightly loud but not obnoxious, to mellow. They do need better lighting as I've seen customers on several occasions using their phones flashlight to see the menu.
As far as food goes, I think it would be hard to be disappointed with their selection, the excellent seasoning and overall fresh taste. I recently had their rabbit fettuccine which had been out of stock for about 2 months and it was absolute heaven (pictured).
The rabbit was succulent, well seasoned and tasted fresh. The sauce was absolutely delicious.
The chicken (large dish section) and steaks are also favorites and recommended. The chicken was probably one of, if not the best I've had in Bangkok so far.
Highly recommended for a first or second date, date night, small groups (it's a staple scene here) or even a solo traveller looking to treat themselves after a long day or as a great way to enjoy...
