Stopped in hoping to watch Rangers v Isles in the NHL. Read reviews that this is the best sports bar in Bangkok. Laughable. Seemed like a British or Irish owned pub full of European expat pensioners and their young Thai WAGs.
When I arrived, I asked the waitress but she said they only had 2 working TVs, one big screen showing the mid table epic between Man Utd and Bournemouth (but fair enough coz United are still probably considered a big team in Asia), and the other showing Moto 3 qualifying which, as you'd expect, nobody was watching. Turns out they had a 3rd TV showing Muay Thai.
I asked if they could change it to the NHL but they said no, wasn't clear if they didn't have access to channels that show it, which would be weird considering they bill themselves as an "American Sports Bar" and they had a Sky Sports stream of the football, so they can probably just stream anything.
Decided just to have one drink and watch the United game. Pints of Thai beer at nearly 200B. Air-conditioning but they leave the doors open which is genius. They also don't serve any American beers, not that I'd want to drink any of their swill but if you're an American, you probably wanna give this place a swerve unless you're coming to pull their signage down for false advertising.
Edit due to owner's reply:
Maybe you should check in with your staff who seem to be of the impression that your business only has 2 working TVs. I counted a big screen and 3 other TVs downstairs. I didn't go upstairs as they told me there were none up there. 2 of the 4 screens were showing the same feed of Moto GP qualifying... I repeat, QUALIFYING... Not even the actual race. Nobody was watching this, as your trailed off thought suggests, "major sporting event". Your staff referred to it as "Formula One". At least their ignorance can be forgiven, considering English isn't their first language...
If the NHL game had already been played, as you've erroneously claimed rather than bothering to fact check, I must have been dreaming that I was periodically refreshing Google for LIVE score updates on a game that had a 12:30pm EST face off. Or maybe it was the heady thrills of the ghost-watched Moto GP qualifying that transported me into the past. Any decent US sports bar owner and operator would be aware that most major US sports weekend games start earlier than that of a weekday. I still don't buy that you're American, not least because of the amount of British idioms, phraseology and dry wit you use in your responses.
Rather than trying to dismiss my legitimate criticisms with Trumpian revisionist ad hominem (I was very happy in Thailand and I'm a generous reviewer, particularly to small businesses but don't let the truth get in the way of good slander), and if you gave a damn about the reputation of your business, maybe you should focus on educating your staff so that experiences like mine aren't repeated with future patrons rather than respond with that bitter, whiny,...

I do enjoy this place. I bring friends here and I always invite people to come to watch the UFC cards here. It takes me about an hour or two to get here every time. The food is pretty good as I have had some classics on the menu.
The wait staff, one in particular, was very rude the last time I visited during UFC 234 Spider vs Style Bender. I watch every card at this bar. I asked her about the card, as they were not playing it, she tells me the wrong time, 10(that is Main Card), then when I show her the right time and ask, "Do you not play prelims?" Again, it takes me an hour or two at the least to get here, so that is good information to know, she just walks away! Gives me a look and just walks away. I then have to ask her loudly in Thai as she goes up the stairs in Thai, "Yes or no?" She then throws her hands up and says, "Yeah." 5 minutes later the fight is on, no thanks to her. I saw another lady approach the owner and tell him about it and he sprung into action and low and behold, the fight is on in full motion and it's 8:45!
Overall this place is very good and I would suggest coming out here and bringing some friends that are willing to make the trip. It is nice to see an American bar here.
I will end up removing this post, but I do want her to eventually read this, understand the problem, or have the owner explain that the behavior is not OK. Hopefully she learns not to be rude to customers especially ones that frequent the place when they have time. I think it's important to call people out on bad behavior because if we don't, they think it's OK to do. She literally just picked my food up and had a bad attitude doing that, too! It's OK to not know something, but don't be rude, confrontational, or ignore someone who asks...
Read moreI have always visited this bar over many years when I have been in Bangkok. Good food and drink, friendly staff and two well-maintained pool tables.
On Saturday 20th April 2024 (to keep this in full context) I came in around 11:30pm. The bar wasn't wasn't excessively busy, about half full. One pool table was in use the other was free. I put my name on the board and ordered a drink. There were no staff available to play - fair enough – this is not the point of my comment - so I waited. Eventually I joined in with the other two customers already playing, and played around six racks, three racks against each of them.
At midnight one of the staff explained I had to clear my tab (I had nearly finished one drink) because it was the policy of the bar. I might be wrong but it didn't look as if everyone was paying at that point. I said I wasn't leaving and wanted another drink. She said you can have another drink if you pay for the one you've already had. I paid the tab and it looked as if I had paid for two drinks, and had not received the second. I queried this and was told that the other charge was for the table. This is all reasonable - as long as that policy applied to all patrons at the stroke of midnight, they can set their own rules and apply them to who they like. However it felt demeaning, and has never happened to me before anywhere in the world - not even in the sleaziest of nightclubs. I don't think I look like a person who would run off without settling his bill... but perceptions may vary.
Edit after owner's response. I'm not Dodgy Joe, but it seems I look even more dodgy than he does! Nevertheless, I appreciate your response and investigation, and you have confirmed there was no...
