Read moreWent for the Chicago style pizza. Of course it's not the most authentic, but I was pleasantly surprised at how close they got to it. The crust was light, flaky and crispy. I think the 499 price tag for that is fair. I also decided to order some Buffalo wings, which the menu said were made with authentic Buffalo sauce. Upon getting them, they clearly were not. When I spoke with the waiter, he said the kitchen mixed Frank's Red Hot with ketchup. Obviously the Frank's part was right but the ketchup was not. For the same price you can get much bigger, better, authentic wings from Hooters. The restaurant itself is cute, comfortable and clean. The staff were a bit odd, though. They had at least 5 employees on duty when I visited, but they were usually all hanging out in the kitchen, thus it was hard to find someone when I needed another beer, etc. To sum up, I would go back for the Chicago pizza, because it's something unique that no one else is offering, but there's a lot of room for...
Read moreMy SO and I just had a late lunch/early dinner at 8855 and it was quite enjoyable. She ordered the gài pad mét-má mûuang (stir-fried chicken with cashew nuts) and it looked good. I had a bite, and it was as good as it looked. I ordered the spaghetti Bolognese, and it was an ample portion and good tasting. The accompanying garlic toast was better than any I have had in the area. While neither dish was spectacular, both were well above average.
The ambiance of the restaurant was comfortable and pleasant. There were some lovely large and traditional Thai teak bas-relief carvings that added to the charm. The service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. They also have a nice pool table, but we didn’t play this time; maybe we will next time.
The restaurant’s location is unfortunate being on a tiny but “colorful” side-alley with not a lot of people walking. The inconspicuous location is a shame because this is a nice place that should get more attention.
Because we live nearby, and walk past it fairly often, we will undoubtedly come back...
