Bangkok's omakase restaurant scene keeps going from strength to strength. Last year, Masato Shimizu moved from his one-Michelin-starred restaurant 15 East in New York to open Sushi Masato. Now another big name has followed suit.

Sushi Zo was started by Japanese chef Keizo Seiki in Los Angeles in 2006, and it was awarded a Michelin star in 2009. After establishing a second branch in L.A., he expanded to New York City with an omakase-only restaurant in 2015 that Michelin later awarded one star in its 2017 guide.

Headed by Hokkaido-born executive chef Toshi Onishi, the Bangkok branch sticks to the omakase-only concept and accommodates about 10 diners per seating. The price falls between B6,000-8,000 for about 18 courses, made edomae-style. Reservations are required two days in advance, but we can see that lengthening substantially.

I had the pleasure of dining at Sushi Zo last night for their 16+ course premium omakase experience, and it truly exceeded all expectations. Every dish showcased the freshest seasonal fish flown in daily from Japan, with highlights including the incredibly rich Bafun Uni from Hokkaido. While the food and sake were absolutely top-notch, it was the exceptional service that elevated the entire experience. The chef was not only a master of his craft but also warm, engaging, and passionate. Sushi Zo is an unforgettable dining experience that I highly recommend—I'll absolutely be returning. If you're a fan of quality sushi and world-class hospitality, you need to go. ...

I had a wonderful dining experience here for the first time. The 5-hand roll course 1990++per person was excellent — fresh ingredients, delicious flavors, and great textures in every bite. The chef was friendly, engaging, and very thoughtful, while the staff provided attentive and caring service.

Even though I didn’t mention my birthday in advance. However, my partner told the chef it was my birthday. the chef surprised me with a special roll and a complimentary dessert after finding out, which made the evening even more memorable. I was truly impressed! We both thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will definitely come...

Omakase style Japanese sushi restaurant. Food is offered as set menu, the menu changes depending on the availability and season. The course menu costs seven thousand baht, but at the end you would feel it's worth the price. Restaurant serves customers in two rounds, 6pm and 8:30pm. Booking in advance is a must, as most often the restaurant is fully booked. The place is very small, can accommodate up to ten customers at once. Customers sit on the bar counter where customers can watch the chefs prepare their course meal. Chefs are very friendly with good humor, feel free to talk to them, it will make the meal even more pleasant.
