Very, very disappointing !!!
Not because of the food itself, which was generally good and even tasty, but because of the complete lack of service. The dishes felt somewhat industrial, like a Swiss machine: efficient but soulless.
The experience at the flagship Central branch was frankly embarrassing. The waiters didn’t clear plates from the table, even when asked and when new dishes arrived, they simply placed them among the dirty ones without a second thought.
For a table of five diners ordering around 15 dishes, it was chaotic and unpleasant, like eating on the street. Several dishes also arrived with mistakes, and the ordering system via the small digital tablet was clunky, confusing, and frustrating.
It was our fourth time dining at this restaurant chain around the world, and sadly, the service and atmosphere have never been impressive. This brand has turned into the McDonald’s of its category, mass-produced and overconfident, forgetting what real service and dining experience mean. Read moreDin Tai Fung at Central World delivers high-quality Chinese cuisine with well-executed flavors and courteous service. The xiaolongbao, pork gyoza, and vegetable dishes were excellent, while the dessert baos—especially the chocolate lava bao—were surprisingly delightful. Though portions may seem modest, the quality makes up for it. A great spot for dumpling lovers.
Full Review:
Din Tai Fung is a name synonymous with expertly crafted xiaolongbao, and this location at Central World lives up to that reputation. While some may debate whether the portion sizes justify the price, there's no denying the quality of the food.
Our meal began with the signature xiaolongbao, each dumpling perfectly pleated with a delicate yet elastic skin that held the savory broth within. The pork gyoza had an excellent sear, offering a satisfying crunch before giving way to a well-seasoned filling. The vegetables, while simple, were fresh and well-prepared, complementing the heavier dishes nicely.
The real surprise, however, came with dessert. A chocolate lava bao isn’t something I’d usually expect from a place specializing in traditional Taiwanese dumplings, but it worked remarkably well. The rich, molten chocolate filling paired beautifully with the soft, steamed bao, making for a unique and memorable ending to the meal. The red bean bao was another highlight, offering a more classic take on dessert with its smooth, subtly sweet filling.
Service was efficient and polite, as expected in a well-run Din Tai Fung branch, and our food arrived in a reasonable timeframe. While some might find the pricing a bit high for the portion sizes, the consistency, quality, and refined flavors make it a worthy dining experience. If you’re a fan of expertly executed dumplings and Chinese cuisine, this location is a...
Read moreHalf a decade since my first bites and I cannot get over the consistently authentic taste of DTF’s xiao long bao.
My little heart longs for the unique flavors of the small yet famously delicious bao! During my visit to Krung Thep, I had to get as many xiao long bao at DTF as possible. It only took 15 minutes for DTF at CentralwOrld to serve a bamboo steamer of delicious xiao long bao. You can also make your own dipping sauce from the bottled vinegar and chili oil readily available, pairing with threaded fresh ginger. Shout out to the logistics and R&D team at DTF for being able to maintain consistent flavors and experience at every global location. I am rather disappointed that my home country does not have a DTF branch.
For me, the taste of DTF’s xiao long bao was just divinely balanced (a bit of ginger and chili oil may boost some more) and the gelatin soup was not too hot. The crab and pork option may be a bit pricey but would surely stand out with the original pork filling.
I preferred savory xiao long bao over sweet ones. Custard steamed bun was also delicious and perfectly portioned. I didn’t like black sesame steamed bun very much; sesame seeds seemed to be rather over-roasted with a clear hint of bitterness (or they just added too little sugar?).
Cash, card and wallet options are available. You may need to queue but will get a table pretty quickly. This DTF is well-decorated, has comfy seats, accommodating staff members and also offers takeouts (including food delivery apps).
Will definitely return for more xiao long bao bites upon my return to Krung Thep! DTF should be equivalent to “Definitely to Feast”! (As long as my wallet allows haha.)
