If you’re craving bold, authentic Thai flavors without the fuss of long queues or overpriced menus, Somtamnua at CentralWorld is a solid bet. It’s one of my go-to spots, especially for their legendary fried chicken—crispy, perfectly seasoned, and consistently satisfying. Honestly, I’d come back just for that.

This visit, I branched out and tried the beef. It looked promising but turned out a bit tough, which was a letdown. Still, considering the price, the overall food quality holds up well. The somtam with salted egg is a flavor bomb—sour, spicy, sweet, and salty all dancing together in perfect harmony. The mushroom soup and egg omelette? Surprisingly good and comforting.

The vibe is relaxed, with both indoor and corridor seating that’s great for catching up with friends. The menu leans heavily into Isan-style dishes, and they do it justice. Khao Moo Yang, Namtok, and Tom Yum soup are all flavorful and budget-friendly.

Now, about the service—it’s not the warmest or most attentive. Feels like they’re short-staffed, which might explain the lack of engagement. So don’t expect pampering, but do expect good food.

One tip: they don’t hold back on the chillies. If you’re not a spice warrior, definitely ask for a milder version.

In short, Somtamnua delivers where it matters most—taste and value. It’s not perfect, but it’s real, and that fried chicken?...

I’m gonna repeat some other negative reviews, if only I’ve read before walking in.

Service. Non existent. We waited for 15 mins, first dish was served without the white rice we ordered. Reminded them, okay that’s fine. We waited for another 20 mins for the second dish to be served and we have to remind them to serve our drinks. Another 15 mins passed and we asked for remaining dishes. Perhaps the server does not understand English. Our queries were met with one word reply “okay”. That happened 3 more times. Imagine the time we wasted waiting in there.

Enough is enough. We cancelled the remaining dish and ask for the revised bill. Guess what? They don’t even know what are the dishes not served, to be cancelled. The kitchen had no idea, server had no idea. There were dishes lined out getting cold while waiting to be served. As we were walking out, we realised another couple before us still there! Poor couple still waiting while some after us got their food. The kitchen operations need to get their act together. The servers need their attitude checked. This team is an embarrassment to Thai hospitality.

Trust me on this. The 2 dishes we had were nothing to shout about. Perhaps turned cold while waiting to be served. Don’t walk in hungry. You’ll end up...

This is the worst restaurant I've been to in Bangkok. The male waiter's (in the evening shift) attitude was extremely rude, making my trip to Bangkok less enjoyable. My friend and I were full before coming to this restaurant, but since we wanted to try somtum while in Thailand, we came here to try it. We ordered somtum and a beef dish (I tactfully knew that we should order another dish in addition to somtum because we were two people dining). But the male waiter's attitude made me and my friend extremely disappointed. When we said we wanted to order the two dishes mentioned above, he asked again "That's it??" in a very sarcastic tone. Well, we would be willing to order more dishes if those two dishes were really delicious but his attitude made us no longer want to order anything else. Not only that, my friend asked for somtum to be less spicy but when the dish came out it was extremely spicy and really salty. The only plus point for me to give the food 2 stars is that the beef dish is quite delicious with the dipping sauce. But I will not eat at this chain restaurant again, my experience here left me somewhat unhappy and made me feel disrespected. This restaurant has a service charge included in the bill, but the service quality is extremely poor and...

I’ve been a fan of Somtamnua for a while. The fried chicken is to die for. Each time I’m back in Bangkok, I will never fail to visit. This time it has been very disappointing. Food wise, still of good quality. But what’s frustrating is this - I know we are not locals, but we should be given the same treatment as well. We are paying the same amount as any other locals. When we arrived, we were the 1st few tables. We ordered our dishes, and there were quite a lot of locals who came and were seated close to our table. They keep getting their dishes, and the staff totally ignored our table. They even ordered the same dishes, but we never got ours. Only after serving all the locals (who came way later than us), they brought us our food. We even had to ask the supervisor if they were going to serve us our food. After getting this thrash treatment, I will never be back to visit - especially this branch. Never ever treat people this way. We might be foreigners, but we are your customers as well. If you are not interested to make our money, we will take it elsewhere.

Would go Somtam Nua for my spice fix at least once every bangkok trip. Used to frequent the siam center branch until it closed, then switched to Centralworld branch. Over the years: -the food is still good, especially chicken wings, som tam and spicy fish. Beef is meh (usually overcooked). -May sound like a scrooge saying this, but the absolute must-eat here for spice lovers is the complimentary dark red condiment/dip! Wish they actually sell this in bottles. -service has deteriorated for sure, especially after covid. Staff are unsmiling or even grumpy. Most seem to struggle with English during my recent trips, and it was a challenge trying to explain to them our preferences or when they brought us wrong items.. so not quite a willing payer when they started adding 10% service charge to bills. Overall still worth a try if you are in the vicinity.
