Finding decent Japanese cuisine on Phuket can be a challenge, but when we spotted Bon Pan Asian Tapas, we jumped at the chance to indulge in some Japanese fare. The restaurant is beautifully designed – it's clear a lot of thought and effort went into creating a stylish, vibrant atmosphere.
Food:
This restaurant specializes in pan-Asian cuisine, blending various Asian culinary techniques. They focus on small plates, tapas-style, encouraging you to sample a range of flavors. We ordered a few main courses and a variety of appetizers. The gyoza dumplings were decent, but the pork dumplings weren’t very distinct from the chicken ones. They were also quite heavy on the vegetables, which made the flavor a bit bland and masked the juicy, rich pork flavor we were expecting. We also tried the scallop skewers with chorizo. The scallops were unfortunately quite low quality, lacking flavor, completely overshadowed by the strong curry flavor of the chorizo. The crab and shrimp tacos had a small amount of seafood, mostly filled with onions and vegetables, which felt a bit dishonest. The flavor was just average. The lamb skewers on a grapevine stick were a mixed bag. Some bites were tender and juicy, while others were a bit dry. The lobster pasta was well-prepared, with al dente pasta and a flavorful sauce. There was a small lobster tail, also tender and succulent, but the majority of the dish was simply pasta. And the star of the evening turned out to be the Japanese A3 Wagyu steak – it was incredibly juicy and tender, bursting with rich beef flavor and perfectly cooked.
Service:
The service was good. Our server was engaging and helpful in suggesting dishes. He checked back frequently to make sure we were enjoying our meal. The dishes arrived promptly.
Conclusion:
Overall, it’s a decent Japanese restaurant for Phuket. Several appetizers fell short and were just okay, but the overall impression was positive. We’re quite discerning about food quality. I’d recommend checking it out, especially for...
Read moreDuring my recent trip to Phuket, I had the pleasure of dining at Bon Pan Asian Tapas in Patong, and it was an experience to remember! From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted and taken care of by our wonderful server, Misya. Her attentive service and friendly demeanor added so much to our dining experience, ensuring everything was just perfect.
The menu at Bon Pan Asian Tapas is a delightful journey through Asian flavors, offering something for every palate. Each dish is beautifully presented and bursting with unique tastes. The variety is impressive — from the rich, spicy notes to the fresh, zesty tang of their salads and dipping sauces.
As a vegetarian, I was thrilled to see so many thoughtfully crafted plant-based options. The vegetable dumplings were a standout — soft, flavorful, and paired with an amazing dipping sauce. The crushed cucumbers, the the potato skewers and the eggplant donburi were also all equally exceptional, showcasing the kitchen’s mastery of seasoning and balance.
Whether you’re a vegetarian or a meat lover, the diversity of flavors and textures ensures everyone will find something to love. The portions are perfect for sharing, making it a great spot for groups or couples looking to try a bit of everything.
Bon Pan Asian Tapas combines exceptional food, a warm atmosphere, and top-notch service — thanks to Misya and the rest of the team. It’s a must-visit if you’re in Patong and craving an unforgettable...
Read moreThe photos and menu items of Bon Pan all looked promising. Unfortunately upon visiting we not only left hungry but disappointed at the food and service.
We ordered the set meal along with some of the drinks for dinner.
The drinks were hit or miss. The yogurt soju cocktail was tasty but not very strong. The pandan mule sounded promising but unfortunately was just a less tasty version of the original drink.
The coconut karaage was one of the better items we had. It was crunchy and juicy and came with a delicious sauce.
The lobster pasta was very intense in flavor but wasn’t quite for me.
The quality of raw fish at here was completely disappointing. The cuts were small and thin and did not taste very fresh. The tuna tasted like something I could have bought at my local grocery store’s sushi aisle in the States.
The tuna volcano was not bad.
The service was here very underwhelming and slow. The entire duration of our dinner was around two hours. I had to manually flag the staff down multiple times to get more water and our check and felt they were very inattentive despite being one of only two parties in the entire restaurant.
Overall, I was disappointed with my visit to Bon Pan Asian Tapas. The food and drinks were very hit or miss, while the raw fish was completely underwhelming. For 6 people the total tab came out to around 12000 Thai Baht or roughly $330 USD. That amount of money would be better spent elsewhere enjoying other local...
