This is literally a sliver in a wall off the beaten path but next to an overhyped, overspeedy, overpriced touron place next door called #6. No. This is DANG RESTAURANT, dang it !!!
You don't come here for the glitzy decor, or the ladyboy weird entertainment, or the Westernized uniforms, or the overly unhealthy sanitation practices that are too common with a perfectly shiny floor and tables, bright lighting, or perfect English speaking staff, or views of the beach and ocean.
You come her for food. Really, really good food! Prices are incredibly low for a touron and average for a Thai. Only $100 BHT for spring rolls? Ok! How about $200 THB for a pineapple fried rice? Yes, sir! Other menu items such as pad see eww or pad prik or pad thai, with your choice of protein (pork, chicky, moocow, prawns, lobster, or seafood) or no protein at all (for the huge Veggie Fest here) all for $180 BHT or less? No question, hands down, go for it !!
Be daring, try something new for just $3 USD, and if you dont like it, then move on down the menu! ;)
This is a really cute restaurant off Bangla about a block on the west side of the one-way street. You get to sit at big tables like at the German Oktoberfests, "family style." We made new friends from AussieLand. And to be honest, the great food here wins. Much better than the "famous" No 6 Restaurant next door, as I tried both.
The spring rolls were, as usual, after multiple visits, served piping hot from the fryolator and served with a yummy sweet chili sauce.
The tourist pineapple fried rice with chicken was overflowing with rice, chicken, raisins, pineapple bits, and, of course, served in the ubiquitous pineapple. Make sure to ask for a side of SOME sauce, any sauce, or you won't get any, and your fried rice will remain dry as a desert. I ended up using the Kikkoman soy sauce in the table basket.
The mango-coconut shake that I get for take-out (or, as they call it here, an order for "bye-bye") was delicious and chunky. As advertised, ut is the best.... or so I declare!
All staff members were smiling, happy, easy to chat with and so calmingly pleasant that it pains me to say the only bad point that I found here is how hard it can be to get their attention... or to pay your bill. One night, we had to beg the waitress for our vill after the table sitting empty for 30 minutes. Tonight, I only waited 20 minutes. Fix that problem, and get better word of mouth! But never lose your personality, Dang!

Read moreWe love the ambience of the place, first of all. Simple, humble, super chill, but feels very alive. Then the service is nice. Fast, and attentive. We went there more than once. Honestly, we could eat breakfast, lunch, dinner here everyday if we could.
The place can be busy, but getting seats had never been a problem for us.
We love ordering Thai food, especially the ones with pork (morning glory with the pork is a champion), calamari, and shrimp. Their shrimp cakes are fabulous, a must try. Perhaps not the most authentic, but it serves our palette right, especially me; I am very sissy with food. We tried several kinds, and all came out right. Surely their mango sticky rice lives up to their claim. The price is okay considering the area. Food presentation is pretty.
Better pay by cash because for cards, the fee will be 3% extra.
I recommend this place for dining. I don't recommend anything else within the proximity, to the beach area. They don't fool around. What you see is what you get. I'm just confused sometimes because there are several menus: one is for the recommended food, another is for the full menu (which incorporates the recommended food), and one menu is for the drinks or snacks, if I'm...
Read moreLong queue means good food!!! We weren’t disappointed, the food was cooked fresh and delicious. The queue situation was weird though, make sure you chat with the waitress/ waiter as they will be assigning seats according to first come first serve. The long queue protruded out into the road too lol.
Tom yum goong (prawn) was huge and fresh and the soup was sour and spicy. Hot steamy Thai white rice to go with this and stir fried morning glory veggies (Kang kong) and roast pork neck was also crispy and delicious!
The prawn vermicelli was on the pricier side but the prawns were not as fresh. The flavour was average too, not their best dish.
The mango sticky rice was yummy, mango was ripe and sweet and the glutinous rice was chewy, cooked just right and goes great with sweet coconut cream.
The price was fair and affordable. There is a restroom and the restaurant takes hygiene seriously as the cutlery comes cleaned and wrapped individually. But the waiting time can be pretty long. Overall a pleasant eating experience! They don’t charge...
