PLEASE READ & RECONSIDER YOUR VISIT..! This kind of place is the last place you want to find yourself in. ..a complete tourist trap and major rip off, not just high prices, deliberate manipulation and tactics that leave feeling like you’ve had your pants pulled down. The first thing to know is that this place is not Thai owned and most of the staff do not speak fluent Thai, I would be very surprised if they are working legally and paying their tax. You’re taken in to a small area with not much atmosphere, the most expensive drink in Thailand, even considering all of Bangkok’s sky bars, and you’re surrounded by decor that makes you feel the building is soon to collapse. You’re than told that they don’t even sell beer, soft drinks etc so you have to pay for a £35-£40 cocktail to stay. After paying for this and leaving you’re then shown a larger area with some kind of atmosphere and up to date decor in an attempt for them to sell you another extortionately priced drink. What lovely tactics they have. Overall a bad experience. You Will have a much better time somewhere like vertigo at Banyan tree or Nobu at the...
Read moreThe Lebua at the State Tower is a 5 star hotel overlooking the Chao Phraya River, around1 km from the Saphan Taksin Skytrain station. It is well known for its feature in The Hangover 2 and in Jack Whitehall’s Travels with my father so when I saw the queue to embark in the lifts to the top floors, I was not surprised.
Given we were not dining at the Sirocco (top floor) we opted for Alfresco 64, a whiskey cocktail bar based on the 64th floor of the Lebua State Tower.
We sat outside (who doesn’t love drinking al fresco!) and had a couple of cocktails – Frescito: Alfresco’s take on famous Mojito – Chivas Regal Extra built with ginger, fresh mint, lime, sugar and topped with refreshing ginger ale and Silk Road: Fruity and thirst quenching! Chivas Regal Extra shaken with cranberry, vanilla, lime and cointreau.
The outside area at Alfresco 64 is not anywhere near as large as Above Eleven or Long Table and the cocktails are double the price at around 750 baht. It is worth a visit if you are in the area but I actually wouldn’t go out of my way again when you have better rooftop bars that are...
Read moreI rarely take the time to write reviews but on this occasion I feel it is necessary.
My experience at Alfresco 64 this evening was phenomenal, but not because of the whiskey and the view which were great, it was due to the extraordinary service of one man. I am ashamed to say I forgot his name, but he is a tall man from Sierra Leone that was raised in Italy and I believe is the head mixologist so I'm sure that narrows it down.
Management, if you read this, take care of this man. I've worked in numerous restaurants and have been through some Michelin starred establishments. This employee provided me the best service, whiskey knowledge, recommendations, and overall insight I have ever received. His ability to make a guest's entire experience should not go unnoticed. He has the composure of upper management with the extroverted personable character of the best of front end staff coupled with the knowledge of a master mixologist. Worth his weight in gold? I think...
