We paid for the dinner buffet only, was not part of the in-house guests using the half-board hotel stay plan. It was quite a steep price of 300 AED per pax, hence I have higher expectations.
I was quite pissed at the service as the price we paid for included free flow coffee, tea, juices, soft drinks. But we were not told at the cashier that we could order these beverages, or offered by any staff. Instead we were told by the waiter that only water and Turkish tea is part of the buffet, which is what in-house guests were entitled to without extra charges. As a result only at the v end of the buffet were we asked by the waiter if we wanted to order any beverages. He said he assumed we knew we could order these beverages when in fact, no one told us! We were told only Turkish tea and water. I an really unhappy about this, as I was disappointed to only have water and tea to drink with my food, felt that it soured the entire experience.
Moreover, we were supposed to get a stamp on our parking ticket for complimentary parking, which the staff at the counter did not do so for us as well. As a result we left after eating, had to come back, and queue up at the concierge.
Seafood selection was lacking with only mussels, prawn cocktail salad, squid. For the price, I was expecting higher quality seafoods like oysters, lobsters, scallops, big fresh prawns.
Huge Turkish desserts spread, could eat desserts as a meal. Quite authentic with “chicken breast” rice puddings, chocolates, baklava and its variations, cookies in syrup, Umm Ali, strawberry desserts, quite similar to what I see in Istanbul
Chinese selection wasn’t v good, more towards north east China food, pretty spicy, less of the southern foods.
Impressive sushi selection, with the dragon rolls California rolls, chirashi, really colourful and enticing
There was plenty of Turkish food, stews, lamb, beef, chicken. As someone who doesn’t like grilled meat or lamb, I was really impressed with the lamb kebab. Really well done, tender, soft, not gamey, well seasoned, really authentic like how I tasted it in Turkey. But the salmon and white fish grill was not very good, prob not suitable for grilling.
Extensive cheese selection, with some rarer more expensive cheeses that u don’t see in other buffets. My partner who is a cheese lover was really happy and impressed.
Overall, the food quality and variety is acceptable for its price. What stood out was the cheese selection, desserts selection, lamb kebab, sushi selection.
The service needs improvement and not just assume or treat everyone like in-house guests here to dine for 90 min and leave. Staff needs to take more initiative, be more alert and differentiate between in-house and...
Read moreI recently visited Turquoise restaurant at Rixos JBR, and unfortunately, it was one of my worst dining experiences in over 15 years of trying hotel restaurants. The buffet, which was supposed to have a Turkish theme, fell short of expectations in both variety and quality.
I had no doubts before booking that the food would at least meet a certain standard, given Turkish cuisine’s well-known reputation for richness and flavor. However, the selection was disappointing, lacking essential Turkish grill items or a decent variety of meats, fish, or chicken. Instead, the options included basic dishes such as an outdated style of kale kofte and simple chicken drumsticks. There were no appealing options for children either.
The seasoning was overpowering in both the meat and chicken dishes, while the pasta had a watery sauce lacking creaminess. Even the fries were not fresh. A particularly underwhelming dish was the heavily fatty, small-cut meat in an onion and tomato sauce, which felt too greasy and heavy. I looked around and noticed that most guests were only having sushi, which speaks volumes about the overall selection. The shrimp was also too fishy in taste, indicating poor quality or handling.
Having reviewed numerous hotel buffets across various platforms, I can confidently say this experience was not worth the price, especially considering the misleading influencer promotions. My advice to the chef: focus on curating a menu that offers real value rather than this uninspired selection. I tried every dish and was not impressed by a single bite.
Service was equally disappointing. Plates were not cleared unless requested, and I had to repeatedly ask for cutlery replacements for myself and my guest. The table was never cleaned, no sanitizers or warm towels were offered, and staff were rarely available when needed.
Overall, the experience did not justify the high price, and it certainly did not live up to the restaurant’s...
