Absolutely awful, now named Sleeping Panda.
Without doubt the worst restaurant we've ever visited. What strikes you first is it is absolutely freezing inside with one tiny fan serving the large dining area. We should have seen the warning signs being the only people in there on a busy saturday evening. We ordered our starters, salt & pepper ribs and shumai. These arrived in 3-4 minutes. In every chinese restaurant we've ever visited its pointed out that shumai takes 20 minutes as they're steamed freshly. Both starters were disgusting. The ribs were battered bone with no meat and the shumai raw. We wished to settle our bill and leave but the lady who runs the restaurant simply could not stop arguing. We were happy to pay our bill simply to escape but she was incessant, saying 'food is good, shumai cooked fast on fire' We paid our bill in full following a 10 minute barrage from the waitress and even the chef! On a final note it is extremely suspicious that the glowing reports on tripadvisor of this establishment are all from contributors with just the one...
Read moreFigured I would try here since the change over and a recommendation by a friend. It's decorated very well inside with friendly staff and would be a good restaurant for a meal but as a take-away I would have to say it's too expensive for what you get at £9 for a meal. I chose sweet and sour chicken with fried frice since I try that everywhere; The sauce was more yellow than the red some establishments make, just a hint of fruityness rather than overpowering, with fresh pineapple, peppers etc. The amount of chicken however was very small in comparison to the rice and other ingredients considering how much you pay. Still a tasty meal but I would rate other local takeaways higher due to value for money. For £6 more you can visit one of the two buffets in the city for multiple courses including desert if you were dining in, the same price as here for lunch times...
Read moreI am so gutted that we had an awful take away meal from the new Sleepy Panda in Chester here last weekend (previously The Summer Palace).
The prawn crackers, crispy duck pancakes and noodles were okay but the chicken satay was so bad it made me feel physically sick just looking at the sauce (See photos) It tasted like cold curry sauce and had a nasty jellied texture to it. I struggled to find and taste of peanut in the satay chicken dish. The sweet and sour chicken lacked the flavour in the chicken. My husband was disappointed with his egg fried rice - he said it was bland. The ribs for starter were a very small portion and with not a lot of meat!
In my opinion they need to pay attention to food flavouring more and start making their own satay sauce or upgrade (possibly?) the...
