The Square Bottle - JD Wetherspoon — Restaurant in England

We visit a lot of wetherspoons. Outside we sat on one of the two tables. Man came out absolutely wrecked and unable to hold his glass. Smoking. It did state no smoking. We were cringing. Had breakfast one morning. Lipstick on mug. Staff happy to change. All the staff were helpful. Went in the evening. Gin glass had lipstick on it again changed it no problem. Accessible toilet. This is a bug bear of mine as I cannot stand for any length of time and use crutches. Toilet was in use with someone who did not have mobility issues. Heard another woman asking for key and again she looked quite mobile. Seen another female do the same. The toilet floor had been urinated on and excessive amount of toilet on the floor. Did point out to staff who went in and sorted. I understand that people dont want to do the hike to the toilets. But while staff are giving out that key to non mobility impaired people the people who are actually on pain suffer. There was 2 lads one who was so loud it was annoying along came another 2. This lad was so loud it ruined our time there and decided to get food elsewhere. He was one who used the accessible toilet. Saying he had a weak ankle. Oh really cos you were jumping up and down on the way out. There's not enough staff. Its a shame cos its way below standard for a wetherpsoons in my opinion. I frequent a LOT of wetherspoons in various cities ! The standards for the accessible toilets should be mother and child and people with noticeable physical disabilities and not just because an able bodied person cannot be bothered. After wandering down Chester high street and deciding on a couple of beers before my evening meal I stuck my head in this place. I have to say as a venue its nice and as far as Weatherspoon pub’s atmosphere’s go this place was very friendly. Nice feel to the place, it was busy, but yet not rammed and did not feel rough, which I sometimes feel Weatherspoon’s venues can. It was early doors after work. The only let down was the staff could have been better. When I first walked in there were two male bar attendants serving but they were obviously in the middle of goading each other, rather than looking to serve. A local then walked in and went to the bar and the lads acknowledge him and immediately served him whilst I stood at the bar waiting. Eventually one of the lads did come up to me and take my order, but the impression was ‘if I have to’ rather than ‘let me help you’. On buying a second pint I had a similar experience in that others were served first even though they had come to the bar after me. I know expecting top notch service from a busy Weatherspoon’s is probably overstretching, but on this occasion, I found this place on the wrong side of what I would consider acceptable. It’s a shame as other than this, this is probably one of the better Weatherspoon’s I have been in, and I would have happily stayed longer but in the end decided to move elsewhere. Rudest pub staff in the North West!!! My partner and I popped in for a quick drink on our way from the station, we were surprised at how quiet it was at the time (9pm) there were 3 people waiting at the bar and 4 members of staff behind the bar! The guy stood next to me also waiting, turned to me and said ‘I hope you’re willing to wait, they’re a bit slow’ the young girl behind the bar stopped what she was doing and stared at me and asked me what I just said, I told her we were having a private conversation! She wouldn’t let it go, she was shouting at me, I asked her what her name was and she refused to give it to me. I walked out and so did the guy I spoke to! As I was leaving she was shouting for the whole pub to hear her ‘Yes that’s good, Goodbye, See you!’ She was a complete jobs worth!! No wonder this Weatherspoons is the quietest in the UK when you have staff who verbally abuse their customers!! We are a middle aged couple with disposable income and these types of pubs would be lucky to have people like us spending our hard earned cash there!
