We visited this restaurant having made a booking, only to find the abrupt owner not having a record of it and then accusing us of not having a booking so it was not a good start to the evening. Despite this minor issue there was a table available. We ordered plenty of dishes including the flaming chorizo, octopus, squid, etc.... Well what can I say... The 2 main waiters which includes the owner were very very rude and abrupt in service delivery. All food came without any seasoning and tasted all very bland. When I called them out on it they said they do not season any food in the kitchen and it is for the customer to do this. I looked around in complete shock and not a single table had salt and pepper on it. In addition, not once was I offered salt and pepper.
The octopus dish certainly wins the award for the worst octopus dish in the world. It consists of 1 very small tentacle they can find finely diced up into tiny tiny pieces and placed on to tiny slices of boiled potatoes with paprika sprinkled all over it masking any flavour. Its a complete joke of a dish. Foul tasting and really does not make sense.
The flaming chorizo is all show but again foul tasting and rolling in fat.
The whole restaurant experience was disgusting. Not one good meal came out of that kitchen and the staff just appalling. Im surprised they are in business.
Anyway if you enjoy sea foods there is plenty on offer in Brighton but this is one place to stay well away from.
Regarding the bill they are very very lucky I even paid. The octopus dish was sent back and he was instructed to remove it from the bill and this was done. On reflection I should have exercised my full rights as a consumer and refused to pay at all as I was so annoyed with the way he treated us.
I would greatly suggest anyway you stay well away from this and if you are unfortunate enough to be sat in their restaurant right now reading this whilst thinking the same as I was then just remember it is a civil matter and as a consumer you have the right to either not pay and/or pay a portion of what you think is due for what you have had in the event you receive such appalling service and poor quality food.
Our visit was earlier in the summer 2022. I am very busy running many businesses myself so its taken me a while to get around to writing the...
Read moreLet us preface by saying, this was a lovely, cosy restaurant, tucked away in the heart of Brighton, which means location wise, you cannot get any better than this. In regards to the food, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't mouthwatering either. We booked this restaurant for our trip to Brighton, because my partner, who's Spanish, misses the food dearly. So we thought it would be a great idea to try and get at taste of home. Alas, she was sadly disappointed.
Some of it, was a regional difference really and that's not the restaurant's fault. Obviously we cannot speak to the whole menu, but from what we ate, we would not recommend the Gambas a la plancha or the Croquetas. The Gambas (shrimp) were quite bland, and they came to the table with the heads chopped off already. The Croquetas were sadly very dry and stodgy, and honestly we were so excited for them, so this one hit hard. They tasted re-heated. We also had pincho moruno (pork) and it was probably the best tapa that we ordered, the flavour and seasoning was rather good, however it was overcooked.
If you're a fellow Spanish person trying to find a little taste of home, based on what my partner has said, this won't the place you'll find it.
Plus, for the sizes of the portions and overall quality of the food (in our opinion) it was slightly overpriced. We looked at the menu online prior to booking, and we thought it would be completely worth the price if the food turned out to be any semblance of the food we have when we visit the family, so we took a gamble. Also, heads up, there is a 10% extra charge at the end, for service, and the bill is handwritten and extremely difficult to decipher. We were really hoping to add this place to the list of restaurants to go back to but we will not be returning.
Anyway! Definitely fills you up, the food gets to the table pretty fast once you've ordered, however do manage your expectations if you decide to go, and perhaps try other items from the menu instead of the ones we...
Read moreMy partner and I had dinner at Casa don Carlos on Saturday 17 February. We have returned here many times during our visits to Brighton. But after the last visit I am not sure if I will come back.
The quality of the food and hospitality was, as usual, very good with the exception of my Crema Catalana only being warm on top and cold inside. I also wish the cheese was at room temperature rather than fridge cold. Plus, the food was a bit rushed onto the table, which in hindsight was probably a blessing.
But that’s where the good things stopped. A group of six people behind us ruined the whole evening, or to be more precise, ONE individual of that group. He clearly loved his own voice, and the volume (including laughs) was on full blast the whole visit. It was impossible to hold a normal conversation without losing track of your own mind. Other neighbouring guests were also disturbed by this man and raised their concerns. We spoke to the staff, but they said they couldn’t do anything as the group were regular diners.
I’m very disappointed that the staff/management is reluctant to kindly tell one guest to consider other diners, especially if they have been there before. The relationship should be amicable, you would think. I am frustrated that many of the diners had their experience ruined because of one person, and the staff thought the rest of the paying guests should just ‘suck it up’. Ultimately – when it comes down to it, it’s their job to make sure every single guest has a pleasant experience, regardless of if you are a...
