I used to come here under different ownership. Unfortunately, St. Swithins Lane had been a perpetual construction site for many years, followed, and then the restaurants were severely hit by the pandemic. However, I was pleased to see that this bar, which is so closely associated with Porto and Sandeman's Port, has reopened under a different name. I am fascinated by the history of Port and St. Swithin's Lane holds so much of it. This is also the Street where my parents first met in the 1960's. Now, to the bar. I enjoyed the two course menu at £22. This is not the cheapest of places but the quality is outstanding. The spiced tomato soup starter was one of the best that I have ever tasted. The mains were of equal high quality and admirably served by Alban and Daniela, both of whom were perfect hosts. The bar is well stocked with Portuguese wines and beers, and the ambience is great. This venue is well a visit if you find yourself in the confines of the City of London.

We really enjoyed the friday Roast, it is a brilliant idea The Choices were Sholder of Lamb for two people, Beef, Belly of Pork or A Vegetarian en Croute The portions were very generous lovely seasonal vegetables, huge Yorkshire puddings with a stuffing ball in the middle and insanely good Roast Potatoes every bit as good as a home cooked Roast which is very rare I couldn't find fault with anything about the food and service such a great value lunch with lovely friendly service My only two criticisms would be to maybe reduce the size of the portions slightly and to serve a dinner plate with the shared lamb as apposed to side plates which weren't large enough We loved it and will definitely return thank you

Lasagne at 1790 bar, dined Nov 2024. I have been meaning to visit this place for lunch because they have specials each weekday. The ones I wanted to try were the steak and ale pie and lasagne. Unfortunately, it wasn't a good start as it took ages for someone to come over so I could order while food took ages to arrive. I ordered Chef Mahdi's mum's lasagne which was really disappointing and looked nothing like their lasagne on their instagram nor a normal lasagne. It was just a pile of ragu meat sauce and virtually no lasagne sheet.

Had such a great evening at Bar 1790! The place has a lovely vibe – relaxed but still really stylish. The food was spot on, full of flavour and nicely presented, and the cocktails were some of the best I’ve had in a long time.

What really made the night, though, was our server Kinga. She was absolutely amazing – so friendly, attentive, and genuinely lovely to chat to. She gave us brilliant recommendations and just made the whole experience feel special. You can tell she really cares about making guests feel welcome.

Definitely one of those places you leave already planning your next visit. Highly recommend Bar 1790 – and if you get Kinga looking after you, you’re in...
