I visited this café today and, unfortunately, left feeling quite shocked and disappointed by the level of service we received. I had brought a friend and her two young sons, who were travelling to France, and since the café is close to my workplace, I thought it would be a lovely place to see them off.
While the coffee and food were excellent — genuinely high quality and enjoyable — the service left a lot to be desired. Despite several free tables, the waitress appeared reluctant to seat us, which was confusing. The two boys were extremely well behaved throughout, yet we were largely ignored by one member of staff (a blonde waitress), who instead gave considerable attention to another table that appeared to be dressed more formally. The difference in treatment was quite stark and, frankly, uncomfortable.
We eventually had to ask a more junior member of staff for basic things like water and to place our order, which she did politely. However, the same waitress who had initially ignored us also served us when it came time to pay — again, with little urgency and a sense of reluctance that made the whole experience feel unnecessarily awkward.
I’m genuinely sad to write this, as I had hoped to leave my friend with a warm, welcoming experience. The food alone might bring me back, but the service — particularly from that one staff member — was dismissive and felt, at best, indifferent and, at worst, discriminatory. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and addresses the inconsistency in...
Read moreHaving been to the Honey & Co on Lamb's Conduit, I enjoyed this off-shoot but expected a bit more. The food was really delicious: We had hummus, sweet potato latkes and we both had the chicken tagine for main. The portions were on the small side for dinner and there wasn't an option for veg on the side.
Service was fine, they didn't rush us despite all booking related emails warning me we had max 90. mins at the table.
We both had a cheesecake dessert, which is a signature Honey & Co and did not disappoint.
It was £123 for two with service (also: Service was automatically included in the final bill, if you'd wished to take service off, you would've had to ask which I feel can make it awkward. Service shouldn't be a given), with only one glass of wine (two herbal teas with dessert). Whilst I found this astounding (£61 just feels like A LOT for a pretty decent, but smallish meal with no alcohol for me), this is now standard for 'central London decent meal'. SIGH. I won't go on a rant here, but I also notice some reviews about the cost of the coffee also served here. Another London problem.
I would recommend this place, but manage expectations on portion...
Read moreWhen you first visit somewhere with a stellar reputation, there’s always a bit of apprehension about whether it could possibly live up to it. After today’s lunch, though, all I can say is that the superlatives are richly deserved. What a meal! When the simplest of dishes like a plate of hummus or one of pickles and olives (all of which making a great combination, by the way) are taste experiences brought to the next level, you realise something very special is on offer. Sure enough, the mains have a depth of flavour and exceptionally well thought out combinations of colour, texture and above all flavour that it’s obvious how richly deserved that stellar reputation is. Such a great team of people serving too: all of whom were friendly, helpful and downright delightful. Even without the bonus of a brief chat with the creators and leaders of all this excellence, who happened to be at the next table, it would have been a meal to last long in the memory. You truly are an inspiration!...
