This is the latest addition to the José Pizarro portfolio, and, in my opinion, an incredibly good one. It is an all day affair, serving breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, the concept being to give you what you want, when you want it, without being forced to miss out if you missed THAT DISH you wanted to try but it is only on the ( delete as applicable) the dinner menu, or the lunch one. The space is tastefully decorated, very luminous and with some outside seating as well. The service is incredibly good, they know the menu inside out and the staff is really nice, you can see they enjoy talking to their guests and genuinely recommending the dishes that suit their taste. Now the food : I had the devilled eggs with anchovies, and I also ordered the gran Riserva cantabrian anchovies. Both great, the devilled eggs could have had a bit more punch by adding some chillies but were still very nice. The gran riserva cantabrian anchovies were amazing, they came with 2 types of bread, and a little mini concoction of sliced red onions, parsley, lemon and olive oil, totally worth the price. I come from Salerno, and one of the best places in the world for anchovies is Cetara, a few kilometres from Salerno, world renowned for their anchovies and what is called “colatura di alici “; those cantabrian anchovies are on a par with that kind of stratospheric quality. After those starters I had the cuttlefish, squid ink and white rice, probably the star of the show, the complexity and depth of flavour was just perfect, and I could have had 3-4 portions of it; in fact, I suggest they should do an option of having this dish as a Main course, doubling the quantity of it ! I also had the 5J pork with apple and toasted hazelnuts, good but not as incredible as the cuttlefish dish. As desert I had the chocolate mousse with peaches and vermouth ( divine !) and, because I am greedy, plus I have a fear of missing out, and I love desserts, I also ordered the Torreja, a type of dessert I was not familiar with. I am very glad I ordered it as it was spectacular as the previous one! I really enjoyed everything and I’m looking forward to go back to order the rest of the menu!...
Read moreThe food is overpriced for what you get: small portions that didn’t make up for the lack of quantity with higher quality.
The menu is also both poorly labeled and mislabelled, with many dishes not having dietary guidance (veg, vegan, etc.) and some dishes that explicitly state they have animal ingredients being labeled vegetarian.
The service was also poor and at one point rude and inconsiderate. The restaurant was not busy when we arrived. Only two other groups were sitting down. However, it still took the staff over ten minutes to acknowledge us and then seat us.
We had walked to Bermondsey from 40 minutes away. With it being 30C outside, we had bought two iced coffees en route. As we sat down, the waitress said we cannot put these drinks on the table and forces us to put them on the floor. However we can still drink them.
We order our food and drinks. She leaves, we start chatting, enjoying the weekend. We naturally start finishing our drinks, as it is incredibly hot outside. We also start using our phones as props in our conversation. Of course, we instinctively rest our drinks on the table.
The waitress comes over again, not to bring the drinks we ordered, but to interrupt our conversation to tell us to not put our drinks on the table. The whole rule around not bringing food and drinks from outside is to prevent people from taking advantage of a restaurant. However, we had already order more drinks and food from the restaurant. Yet this waitress kept having a good at us for wanting to finish our drinks when it is boiling hot outside.
No consideration for the heat, no consideration for the fact we had also bought drinks from them, no attentiveness to actually bringing us the drinks we ordered to help solve the problem, and no appreciation that we might have medical needs that require us to stay hydrated or take medicine with water.
It was a stupid situation that showed a greedy and narrow-minded attitude that was completely tone-deaf to the context.
With so many other options down this street like Cafe Murano, it is best you avoid this place and go elsewhere. You won’t be missing...
Read moreI am writing to express my disappointment with the service we received during our recent visit. Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly and seated promptly. Initially, we planned to order food, but after reviewing the menu, we opted for a dessert, coffee, and a cocktail for an early lunch. While it was not an issue to get someone's attention to place our order, I couldn’t help but notice that the waitress seemed somewhat displeased by our choice. I’m unsure of the reason for this, as it was a simple request.
As we waited for our drinks, I became aware that two different staff members were observing our table, which made me feel uncomfortable, though I initially dismissed it as mere paranoia. However, the situation took an odd turn when one of the waiters informed us that we only had 30 minutes left at our table. This was both confusing and unsettling for several reasons:
At no point were we informed of a time limit for our seating. In London, it is common practice to offer at least an hour or more for guests to enjoy their meals or drinks, especially in a place with such a lovely atmosphere. We had specifically chosen your location for a relaxed visit and had no intention of staying long. When I inquired about the reason for the time restriction, I was told that a booking was coming in soon. This raised further concerns—if a booking was already made, why were we seated at all? To add to the discomfort, my mother and I felt judged and, frankly, discriminated against for reasons I still don't fully understand. This situation made our visit far less enjoyable and left us feeling unwelcome.
I hope this feedback is taken into account, as it truly detracted from what could have been a...
