After a long workday, my friends and I sought a laid-back, unpretentious spot where we could enjoy drinks and satisfying comfort food. Nestled in the bustling heart of Covent Garden, Maxwell’s Bar and Grill seemed to fit the bill.

The atmosphere is quintessentially American diner - casual, lively, with a steady hum of activity. In the short 15 minutes we spent awaiting our friends, we witnessed three boisterous renditions of "Happy Birthday" from the staff. Initially, I feared we had stumbled into a haven for birthday revelers and tourists, but we chose to stay the course.

To start, we shared a few appetisers:

Classic Nachos Fondita: The nachos were fresh and topped only with melted cheese, a welcome choice as the accompanying salsa, sour cream, and guacamole were served on the side and therefore no risk of sogginess here.

Buffalo Sauce Chicken Wings: Unfortunately, these fell short. Lacking the signature tang and heat of a proper buffalo wing, the sauce was disappointingly thin and failed to deliver the punch I anticipated. BrewDog’s wings remain the gold standard by comparison.

Jalapeño Poppers: Though the presentation was underwhelming (so much so, we skipped taking a photo), the taste was a pleasant surprise. The herb cream cheese filling had the perfect balance to the spiciness making these a highlight of the starters.

For mains, we each opted for burgers:

‘The Chicken’ - a southern fried chicken burger, straightforward yet satisfying. The chicken was crispy without being greasy.

‘Big Max’ - this double beef burger, adorned with American cheese, pink pickles, lettuce, and ‘Big Max’ sauce. Though I prefer my burgers cooked medium, the well-done patty here managed to retain a decent juiciness.

‘New Yorker’ - a single beef patty with bacon, American cheese, lettuce, pickles, and burger sauce. Unfortunately, the bacon was overcooked, and the sauce, once again, too thin to make a real impact. A passable burger, but far from memorable.

The true standout? The skin-on fries (served with all the burgers). Generously portioned, perfectly crisp, and seasoned with just the right amount of salt. They were, without a doubt, the most enjoyable element of the meal.

Overall, Maxwell’s offers a satisfactory dining experience, though it feels more in line with the likes of TGI Friday’s than anything else. The food is decent, but nothing groundbreaking. A special nod, however, goes to our waitress - her warmth and attentive nature added a welcome touch of charm to...

My girlfriend recommended this restaurant to me so thought I would give it a try, and after my dining experience here, it is clear to see why she suggested it.

The location is fantastic, located in Covent Garden, one of the most beautiful and historic places in London. The restaurant was very easy to find and from the outside it looked stunning.

My girlfriend and I were looking at the menu outside when we were greeted by this voice, which took us by surprise, only to find it was a host from the restaurant who was saying how they had great burgers. We then asked him if we could start our booked meal slightly earlier than the time we had booked for, to which he said was not a problem, so we were taken inside. It looked lovely inside, it boasted style and class, just like the area in which Maxwell's is located.

We were shown to our table straight away, unfortunately my request to have a candle lit table for whatever reason was not possible, which was a shame as it was Valentines Day so it would have given it that more romantic touch.

We then received our food and drinks that we ordered in a reasonably quick time. I ordered the halloumi sticks to start, and my goodness...I don't even have any words for how heavenly they were. I have had halloumi sticks in many different restaurants, but out all of the ones I have ever had, they were my favourite. The Buffalo Mayo sauce (I think) that was drizzled on top...wow! My main was the mac n' cheese, whilst my girlfriend ordered a burger. My mac n' cheese was absolutely phenomenal, it was very tasty and the crispy onion on top just gave it more flavour and that crunchy element. My girlfriend was very happy with her burger and fries too. We were considering ordering a dessert, but we just had no room left!

Our server was friendly, polite and smiley and provided us with excellent customer service. He went the extra mile and he played a part in making mine and my girlfriends valentines date that little bit more special, therefore we gave him a tip.

Only downside to the whole experience was what I mentioned above with not being able to have a candlelit table. They did however have lots of red heart balloons dotted around the restaurant so that was a nice touch.

If you want a reasonably priced, delicious meal, then I would highly recommend choosing Maxwells. A truly amazing dining experience and definitely a restaurant that I would go...

I visited Maxwell's Bar & Grill while touring London, almost by chance I was just walking by it and decided to give it a try.

After having tried it I now believe it was not just chance or coincidence that brought me there. The Fates were smiling upon me and the Olympian gods must have decided to bless me with their all powerful favor.

Hard to know where to start with such a divine experience. Firstly as a party of 3 we were seated almost immediately, no waiting time at all. The atmosphere, the decorations and the music (upbeat american) were great. It was just a pleasure to sit inside.

Moving on to the service the waiters were simply outstanding, extremely friendly and polite, very attentive and constantly checking on us not only to take our orders, but also to check we were pleased and to be sure to ask when anything else was needed. I have to mention their names because they need to be nominated for employees of the month at the earliest possibility, Sebastian and Enrico were just extraordinary in their service, and any failure in elevating them will surely incur the wrath of the gods.

Lastly to the food and drinks, we ordered the philly cheese steak with regular fries, also some extra truffle fries, the mac and cheese plate with bacon added and also their maxwell lager.

This was a glorious and tasty feast with no equal, everything was extremely good, these were without a doubt the best philly cheese steak and mac and cheese plates we have ever had, and my son even shared this with the waiters because he could not hold the excitement.

The drinks were also great, I am not a big beer drinker but I loved their lager very much and would have it many times over if I could.

And to top off the evening, as if the entire experience was not already divine enough to hold any and all gods in awe, they were so appreciative of our positive feedback that they gave us a discount on the bill!!!

These guys are simply legendary, if you are in London do not hesitate, this is the...
