Too easy to order online without all the details needed for completing the delivery. When placing the order, I used the postcode (similar to how JustEat uses your postcode to select nearby restaurants). Anyway, the postal details were autofilled by their system, but without my house number. I should have noticed, but because I normally autofill my address using my phone, I thought nothing of it. So I am now the proud owner of a 4 day old loaf that cost me £36, which is sitting in a FedEx depot! My mistake I suppose, but made easier by their not very clear, ordering system. Customer service was pretty 'meh'. My only response was an email telling me my incomplete address was the reason it wasn't delivered. To say I'm gutted, is an understatement, I've been a craft baker for 35 years, and a signature Poilane loaf was always something I yearned to try. But trying to justify paying £36 for a load of bread is difficult. I still have no idea if the bread will eventually get to me. I suppose I could make croutons with it, rather than letting it go to waste 😢

Read moreI heard about this bakery because it was recommended by Paul Hollywood on a podcast. I should have known he was probably recommending the bread, which looks to have rave reviews, but I walked by on an afternoon when I hadn't had lunch and decided to pop in to get a snack. I assumed it would be expensive but I had no idea what the range could be – there were no prices except for very small print behind the shelves, and none of the products had any labels. There were very few pastries and they were all standard (croissant, brownie, pain au chocolat) so I opted for a pack of two scones for a whopping £4. The first I ate right away and found it quite dry, so decided to save the second for when I got home so I could put jam on it. When cutting it open I could see the density and colour were uneven. Super disappointing to pay so much for a below average scone, the ones I make myself are much better! Thankfully the lady who served me was extremely nice so I may be tempted to go back and try the...
Read moreSelling bread underweight at full price. Just not right. I went to bye my usual rye loaf but saw that they were smaller today. The assistant was very helpful and she weighed 3 loaves. All were underweight by about 100 gms. Obviously the baker would have seen they were underweight and also the staff, but they are happy to sell a product to their customer that is underweight for the full price. The assistant did offer to reduce by 10% but thats not the point. If I did not raise the issue I would have been sold an underweight product for full price. Its just not right... damn shame as it is a wonderful bread. I will miss my weekly bread but just cannot buy from someone who has no care for...
