Salt & Pepper is a delightful, locally beloved café that consistently impresses with its fresh, simple and deeply satisfying British‑style breakfast and lunch options. Tucked just around the corner from the British Museum, it’s the perfect spot to grab a hearty avocado‑toast with poached eggs, a gooey ham and cheese omelette, or a freshly made panini—many diners call it “one of the best paninis I’ve ever had” . The portions are generous, the coffee is excellent, and the homemade muffins and pastries are a highlight . What really sets this café apart is the warm, friendly staff—efficient and attentive service in a clean, well‑maintained interior makes each visit feel welcoming . Despite its modest size (seating for around 45 inside and out), the ambience stays relaxed and pleasant—even when busy . Prices feel very fair for Central London (most meals around £10–20), especially considering the quality and location . In short, Salt & Pepper delivers solid, value‑for‑money meals with genuine charm—ideal for solo travellers, museum visits, or anyone craving honest, tasty fare in Bloomsbury.

First time attending Salt and Pepper ad it looked like a nice option for a quick healthy lunch. I went for chicken, mozzarella, tomato and pesto panini, and I actually I had two of those as I was starving. A friend of mine also had a jack potato 🥔 with cheese and beans. The food was really tasty and is not that expensive either. Service was also good and friendly. The main reason I give 3 stars is because I was being charge for “eat-in” for enjoying their meal in their restaurant. There is not sign to suggest such a cost. I would have nothing against charging 10% for service as it was brilliant. But charging twice for eating two panini on your restaurant, what a joke. Not sure if this is a thing now a day as it is the first time I experienced it. In my humble opinion, this is disgraceful. Charge your customers for your briliant service not for seating inside your restaurant to eat a £6 panini. Overall, good food and won’t break the bank. I probably won’t eat in again as I find this extra charge stupid, but I would get a take away.

We went both days of our stay in London, for breakfast. I had the eggs Benedict and the most divine mocha ... I had to take one away with me as well as having one there. Although the eggs Benedict were delicious, I did find the toasted sourdough a bit tough.. it did not want to separate from itself - May I suggest sharper knives? As the flavour was perfect. My only real gripe was the service charge, I understand the need when it comes to large parties but not such a high surcharge for a table for two. I tip if I’m happy; no one likes to feel forced. All in all: The vibe was fab; the service was fast & efficient (the women work the hardest that’s clear!) the chap (owner I presume) showing us to our table was charming enough to us but did seem to ‘bark’ at his female coworkers.

RACIST ESTABLISHMENT. I am not the only non-Caucasian customer on here that felt discriminated against (wish i had read the reviews before going there). The male and younger female who work in this place are RACIST. My friend and I were in line at Victoria House but because she was hungry she decided that she would not wait any longer so we decided to go to Salt and Pepper because of the reviews and because it was a few steps away. We entered at the same time with a Caucasian couple and after ordering a water and an English breakfast and my friend ordered a tea and her meal, I went to the restroom to wash my hands. When I came out of the restroom, I realized that the couple that came in the same exact time with us was already eating and that even though my friend had received her tea, she was not provided with sugar and my water was not yet provided either. Please note that all the other tables (all with Caucasian customers) already had a bottle of water on them. My friend asked the waitress for some sugar for her tea and instead of providing the sugar to my friend, she pointed to the sugar in another area of the restaurant for my friend to retrieve it for herself even though all the other tables (all with Caucasian customers) had sugar holders on them. I then asked for my water and the waitress said "it is being prepared." Then she went to the tap and full a glass with water (from the tap) and put it on my table and walked away (as mentioned all the other tables had bottles of water on them except our table). I then asked my friend if she saw what I saw and if she felt that we were not being treated equally and she said yes. So I told my friend to drink her tea, pay for it and let's go because I will not be treated less than or unequally. Our food did not arrive as yet. She did not drink the tea and when we went to pay for the tea, the RACIST GUY said to us, "if you know that you were press for time and that you could not afford the food, you should have said something." I told him that he is RUDE and RACIST and that nobody sit down to eat if they cannot afford to pay for the food and that I had enough money to cover his yearly income. We paid for the tea and left and went back to join the line at Victoria House even though it was raining. Even though the wait was long at Victoria House, the service was amazing. When we finished eating our meal at Victoria House, I asked my friend for a minute and I went inside of Salt and Pepper and gave the RACIST GUY my receipt from Victoria House and I said to him "here you go since you said I could not afford it" (since he was rude enough to say that I could not afford it earlier when we were in the establishment) then I walked out of the restaurant. The same RACIST GUY, came running after me and my friend outside of the restaurant saying "ma'am hold on a minute can I speak to you." I kept walking because I had absolutely nothing to say to a RACIST! I WOULD NOT RETURN NOR CAN I RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. It is sad that in 2023 there are those that still have these BARBARIAN thinking to judge and treat others inappropriately and less than because of the color of their skin (something neither them nor the other person has absolutely any control over)...just...

I didn’t feel respected here and the male staff was rude. After I finished my food, the male staff came to clear the table and I asked if he could bring the bill. He asked me to pay at the counter and I said to him okay but I needed a moment (as I was in the middle replying to some urgent texts). However, not even after five minutes, the man came back and told me: “You need to leave now. We need the table.” I understood that he needed to find a seat for the customers who just came in, but the way he expressed it was really rude. I quickly packed my belongings and went to pay at the counter. I was quite surprised when I saw there was a 10 percent service charge because there wasn’t much service and the food was not very good (I don’t want to sound harsh here but it was the worst Eggs Benedict I’ve had. Edible but not up to the average standard). I expressed my bad feelings towards the man about how he asked me to leave, but still offered to pay the service charge although I was not sure it was justifiable (because it wasn’t a lot). However, the man grudgingly waived the service charge for me and said something like “you’re smart” or something (as if I’m trying to use the excuse to avoid the extra charge). He said “I’m sorry that you’re offended” and “You need to respect other people”. He obviously believed that it was my fault and he did nothing wrong. I tried to assert my opinion again “I do respect others but I still think it’s rude to chase your customer out”. However, he became very impatient and said something along the lines of “I’ve already waived your service charge what else do you expect me to do”. I stopped arguing with him and decided to leave.

It seems like a small thing but I do feel really uncomfortable about it. I was not respected by the male staff and also accused of“not...
